This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Hot on the heels of the unexpected success of hip-hop collective Gorillaz's debut album, which garnered a Grammy nomination, comes this enhanced batch of B-sides, unreleased material, remixes, and rarities. With a who's who of band members including Blur's Damon Albarn, Cibo Matto's Miho Hatori, left-field rapper Del Tha Funky Homosapien providing the initial juice under the auspices of uber-producer Dan The Automator, G SIDES benefits from a number of respected remixers. Soulchild pumps up the groove quotient on the already slammin' "19-2000" while the Wiseguys import plenty of harder beats and chanting choruses into the House Of Wisdom remix of the same song. Even the hit "Clint Eastwood" ends up refitted with a rapid-fire lyrical flow on the Phi Life Cypher Version. Elsewhere, Gorillaz monkey around with jangly synths throughout the ethereal "Faust," tabla-fueled rap on "The Sounder," and assay an esoteric, soulful mantra on "12D3." The nine cuts featured on G SIDES are a mere rest stop on Gorillaz's rambunctious ride into the maw of 21st century pop music.
