Album Notes
How often is music (or anything) mysterious and funny as hell at the same time? "Never," you say? And you're absolutely right, except for The Tower Recordings (a.k.a. "Planet T.R.") Picasso said that it took him his entire life to learn to paint like a child; it has taken The Tower Recordings considerably less time to learn how to make music like children; whimsical, humorous, spooky. Almost everything on FURNITURE MUSIC sounds as if it happened by some miraculous accident, like finding precious jewels lying on the sidewalk.
Cryptic song titles, low-to-mid-fi recording techniques...it's like drug-damaged new age music. Check out the gorgeous "Q Delmak-O;" if it were set to a gentle bossa-nova you would swear it was Astrud Gilberto covering Tom Jobim until you came to the scratchy high speed tape sounds and the goofy voiceover that chants "Love! Everybody say, 'Love!'" Naive? Calculated? It doesn't matter. The Tower Recordings make music for anyone who's ever looked at a child's crayon drawing and thought, "My God! That's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!"
