Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus (DVD, 2007)

Diane Arbus was an amazing photographer. She had a way of capturing and even finding beauty in things that repulse or frighten the average person. I didn't have high hopes for this movie at all. It's rare for a fictional movie based on a real person to work on any level. And I was right, as far as Diane Arbus goes this does not work at all. But if you take out any association with her, and if you like adult fairy tales you could like this. It's well done, artistic, visually engaging, and leaves you feeling both love and hate for it. Out of respect for Diane Arbus I'm going to embrace the hate. 2 1/2 Stars.

Visually imaginative and stunning, very unusual images. The story is odd, moody, and seductive. It is quite off-beat, and therefore not for everybody. However, if you like reality tinged with fantasy and beautiful pictures, this could be for you. The love story is very intense.

The movie was in excellent condition and was just as promised The story line is somewhat fictionalized but it moves along as well as can be expected. Diane (pronounced Deeann) Arbus was known for unusual photographs and this story gives you somewhat of an idea about she did that. There are nude males and females in this film so buyer beware.

This is a good imaginative way to think of how an ordinary house wife became encompassed with the obscure and taboo.

I saw it one late night on HBO, and I noticed the main actors of the story were Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr. I love both these actors, especially Downey because he is not afraid to act a part that is considered blasé or weird, and both of them act in movies that are not always seen as the Blockbusters of the seasons. Fur shows a depth in acting of both of the characters, as well offers the audience a step into the unknown, off beaten path into a very coloring and interesting world of many people we don't usually recognize, especially in mainstream cinema. I highly recommend this film for walk "in fur" into a beautiful and poignant visual adventure!

Wow, this was an interesting find. I'd never heard of it before and was surprised that it had Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr. in it. I actually liked it and was saddened at the end. I'm glad I watched it.
