A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (DVD, 2000, Widescreen)

The movie is a Hollywood classical musical. It is based loosely on the work by one of the ancient Roman dramatists. (Plautus or Terrence I cannot remember). The movie is comedic genius from the golden era of Hollywood. I would recommend the movie to anyone except maybe young children due to some mild adult themes. Otherwise buy the movie and watch it. It will be a movie to cherish that looks great when added to any dvd collection. I bought the movie on ebay and had no problems at all.

This movie/musical is undoubtedly one of teh greatest comedy/burlesque musicals of modern time which is ironic sice it was written by a Greek poet several centuries back. I have been enchanted by this ever sice I first saw it on TV in the mid 1960s. An interesting thing is that one of the few paople from teh moovie left alive are Michael Crawford who was so successful in the Phanton Of The Opera on Broadway and Jon Pertwee who played Doctor Who for a coup[le of seasons. Very enjoyable and good for some belly laughs.

An all star cast leads this musical comedy, almost in the style of Mel Brooks in its twist and turns. A good movie for a chuckle or two.

I love this movie and was hoping to get it for less than in the stores. I'm very happy with my purchase. I've never had problems with anything that I've gotten from half.com.

I had first seen "A Funny Thing" in a local theater performance and wanted to see it again, so I purchased the DVD. Quality of the DVD was fine, though I preferred live stage version, but still entertaining.

This is a very good musical and also very funny. It has alot of very famous people starring in it. I would recomend this movie and this company any time.

When I had first seen this movie, it was freshman year of high school in my Latin class. I had fallen head over heals in love with it, but I had no success in finding it in any video store. So when I found it on half.com, of COURSE I had to buy it!

It's a wonderful movie, mostly because it's not the stereotypical Epic-of-Rome like, say, Spartacus or Gladiator are. This movie is an honest-to-goodness comedy! It has every type of humor throughout the film, and it has a whole slew of famous cast members, including Zero Mostel of The Producers fame; Buster Keaton, who was a force to reckon with in the silent film era; and Michael Crawford in one of his first roles before he became the famed Phantom of the Opera. All of these actors, plus comedians who were famous at the time, make this movie a delight for anyone, no matter your sense of humor!

Based on the Broadway musical comedy, this farce set in Ancient Rome follows slave and scam-artist Pseudolus (Zero Mostel in a signature role) as he attempts to win his freedom by brokering the sale of a virgin. Stephen Sondheim's score adds to the appeal.

Quite funny. My boyfriend said that it was a good movie. Would recommend it to anyone. I bought it for him because he had heard about it and wanted to see it for himself.

Saw it years ago and still like it. Why ? I'm A big Zero Mostel and Michael Crawford fan, that's why. I saw this, then "Hello, Dolly ". Was Crawford holding back ?
Anyway, it's one of the best comedies to transition from stage to screen with no losses and a lot of pluses!!

Hard to find movie on DVD.

Video selection out here in New Mexico is VERY limited and this title was not available.

Even so, this was a video store copy.

Bought this movie for a student of Latin, who was interested to see what a comedy about Rome might look like. Incredibly ribald for the year it was made, full of innuendo and asides.

Production quality of this DVD was fine.

Perfect in every way shape and form. Definitely would not hesitate to buy from here again and would give the highest recommendation.

I have always liked this classic comic musical, but always owned it in VHS. I'm glad I got the opportunity to upgrade, and it's usually so hard to find- I'm glad I trie dto do it online!
