Funny Games (DVD, 2008)

Normally I would never have seen this film, as I have vowed never to see any type of slasher/torture-porn. However after reading about the director's vision of trying to show the audience how sickening the watching of graphic torture for entertainment really is, I knew I had to see it.

Unlike the hypocritical Untraceable or The Condemned, this film does exactly what it intends to do. This film gets in your head by giving the pretense that you will witness all the horrible acts, and then turns around on you by not showing anything! Everything is off-screen so you are left with only the sound effects. It is more disturbing as your imagination sets to work on the images off screen, and that in itself is more horrifying.

Haneke crafts a superbly smart psychological thrill, but almost too intelligent as it almost falters on expecting you to know the philosophy behind the film-making and for someone knowing nothing about the film it might be confusing or frustrating.

I would not recommend this film to everyone as it will disappoint the Saw/Hostel audience and may confuse newcomers. With that aside, I greatly welcomed the dissection of violence, and someone who understands the point of the film and enjoys art house-style film-making will appreciate it.

gREAT MOVIE FAIR PRICE AND AN EXCELLENT EBAYER.it is nice to be able buy an older movie at a decent price and not have to bid with 20 people which will only drive the price up to a level where it is not affordable

WARNING SPOILER ALERT!!

Ok, two older teen boys scam there way into reach peoples homes, and terrorize them and then kill them for chuckles. The movie centers around one particular family that they do this to. The dumb people in this family do almost nothing to fight back even though during the entire first half of the ordeal, there only weapon is there mouth, and a golf club. Seriously!! One golf club!! They let them do what they want, until they end up killing them all.

Totally boring. I fast forwarded throught he whole movie because all they did was talk them to death. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to give this movie a 0. It was that bad. Skip it.

I bought this movie by request of my mother. She wanted to watch it.

I did NOT like this movie. It was very wierd and boring. I would not reccomend this to anyone.

This movie isn't going to scare you, it is almost a mock of the modern horror films. The 2 'killers' are very civialized, and like to play with the victums. You will not know what is coming next, they foreshadow events that don't take place, and the bad guys when in the end. Very different, but very cool.

This is a movie that was purchased for a birthday gift. I have seen this movie previously. The acting was great. It was full of suspence. It had great shock factor. At times, the movie was a little slow and some content could have been edited to keep the speed up. I would suggest to friends to see it.

This is one of the best horror movies to come out in a long time. Along with a few others such as The Descent, Funny Games is excellently acted, with great direction and incredibly intense scenes. Naomi Watt's is usually amazing and this is no exception, in my opinion it's her best performance to date. There are parts of this movie that are difficult to watch, and it is fairly brutal. You'll be thinking about Funny Games long after the credits role. With none of the gore taking place on screen, if you have a short attention span or are lacking in intelligence, then I wouldn't recommend this movie, it's more for people who want to get more then just mindless entertainment out of their movie watching experience.

The review of "worst movie ever" by momsheart88 is completely ridiculous, if you claim the acting is bad in this movie it's obvious you have no idea what you're talking about.

This is a remake of a Movie made in the 1970's.I bought it mainly because Naomi Watts is in it,but i must say I found the film a little disturbing to say the least.

A couple Watts,and Tim Roth are on holiday and and encounter two youths who gain access to their home and proceed to humiliate them,and their son in a variety of ways until they are finally killed.This Film is aparently a frame,by frame reworked version of the original film which I haven't seen.

The acting by all concerned is first rate,but I don't think it is a film I will want to watch again,as its pretty one dimensional,and is therefore pretty depressing.

However, Watts is always watchable,and apart from appearing in a few "Turkeys" she never gives a bad performance and this film is no exception.

This is the best movie to come out in a long time. As with most great movies, it was a flop in the mainstream, but don't let that fool ya! As with most mainstream failures, Funny Games is a "Top Notch" peice of art! From beginning to end, it does not let you down. As usual, Micheal Pitt gives a outstanding performance, along with the rest of the cast. If you like, dark, twisted, horror, comedy, filled with violence....then this is the film for you!!
