Funny Car Summer (DVD, 2000)

Having worked on the Chicagoan BB/FC in the mid seventies I was close to cars like these as a kid. The car Jim Dunn built and raced was a winner and this movie shows how laid back things were back then. The music is just awful but the racing footage is good for the times.

I seen this movie as a kid & bought it to relive the memories of the good old days of drag racing. Before the giant race teams & sponsers took over. Great footage of early 70s legends like jungle jim, pat foster, sush matsubara & even john force before castrol.
The story line is'nt that great. But the old drag racing footage is a must for drag race fans from the 70s. racing footage is about 70% of the movie.
Anybody who was around drag racing in the 70s should own a copy of this

I love vintage drag racing and this was a great movie in it's time and still is.I got more out of it now than back then.I guess Jim Dunn was the jhon Force of his day!I also can connect with all of what it takes to go racing and do it with such passion.

Can you say, "Grass-roots"? Here's the man that we fans love as a current ESPN announcer for NHRA dragracing (with Paul Page), who was raising three children with his wife. He had a career but also a had hobby of racing a fuel car and was blessed to be one of the great drivers of all time. The footage appears to be original and that's part of the beauty of the story. If you're a "top-fuel" fan, watching and owning this DVD is a must!

This was one of the best dragracing movies I have ever seen. Being a Division 4 racer and knowing quite a few others that raced during this time it was realy cool to see the Tulsa race and how the guys that formed the sport did it back then. Talking with some of the guys that remember the engine blow up in the top fueler at Tulsa was cool as well. Super movie to add to your colection.

I have been looking for this dvd for a long time we had it on vcr tape. We are in to drag racing. It also was made in Tulsa, Oklahoma and we live in Cushing, Oklahoma which is about 60 miles away. We race at the Tulsa track ourselves. My husband has a 68 Chevelle SS. So we call the Tulsa track our home track.

A Few Of The Scenes Are To Dark To See, But Overall A Great Reminder Of Real Drag Racing. The NHRA Has Ruined Real Drag Racing.

Perfect example of family racing nitro, fuel funny car for a season, back in the day. NO other film of this racing type ,and era is available. Big Jim Dunn and his family and crew show how they got it done. You can smell the nitro

I enjoyed this movie very much I grew up watching the funny cars in this movie at green valley raceway .This movie was well written and directed and is very action
packed it is a must have for any drag race fan.

Old school was cool. I bought it because i wanted to reflect back to the past when more people seemed more honest than they are today.

1974 movie about funny car racing. Good to see old racing footage from the 70's. Movie is well done, shows racing as it is not just glammor footage like some movies have depicted. The Dunn family is shown as they were, just real people doing what they love, racing.

Great DVD. In todays age of high tec, high dollar funny car Drag racing, it is cool to see how it all started and the racers that really paved the way for today's talented drivers. It was a time when an average working class person could, and in the case of Jim Dunn, rose to become a champion with out any major amount of factory help. The cars are incredible, rolling works of art. They look just like the car you could walk in a dealership and buy at the time, as many did. As a side note, the story shows the support of Jim's family for his sport and his hopes for thier future. In today's times, good thing to be reminded of. If you were there during the time and want to take a look back or just love racing and want to see the cars that would allow funny cars to become what they are today this DVD is a great choice.
