This series is so fluffy it hurts. You can try to compare it to Fruits Basket... but episodes about being late for a photoshoot or whatever kill that comparison.
That being said... the emotions at the end of this series are VERY heartfelt, and make the entire anime worth it. Yes, yes... Meroko can be downright painful to watch. Some characters are totally undeveloped... I know. The manga is 10,000 times better - I agree.
Takuto is slightly different from the books. He's alot more like Kyo from Fruits Basket (and is the only reason I endured the series). If you have a choice, watch the anime BEFORE reading the books. If you're choosing one over the other... read the series over enduring all 50+ episodes of this anime.
I will say it again, though - the emotions at the end of the series are well worth the struggle and teeth-grinding it takes to get there.
