As a long time fan of Cornwell I was terribly disappointed in this book. I also passed it along to some friends who have read her often as well - our review - a definite negative thumbs down. Wait to get it from the library.

I am a big fan of Cornwell's Dr. Kay Scarpetta novels and everytime I buy a book of hers that is not a Scarpetta novel I am disappointed. It's almost as if she uses a different writing style.

Her Scarpetta novels (in my opinion) are gripping and full of twists and turns. This particular one doesn't seem to be well written - there is no imagination. I started it and put it down and could care less if I finish it.

Interestingly Amazon rated this one of her best writings. Not sure why! I probably will not buy anything else but Scarpetta novels written by her.

This author has a number of good books to date. This one is very well done as usual. I love the way she writes her stories and always look forward to her next book. Allthough I have to wait a little longer to get the LARGE PRINT version of most books, It is well worth the wait!

  Take Some Time Off
Review created: 09/05/08

This short novelett is so poorly written. The characters are black and white and boring. Patricia needs some writing time off to get back to basics.
I have read all of Ms Cornwell's books. I had years of enjoyment with her colorful and dynamic Dr. Scarpetta. I long to go back to that time of reading ...adventure, suspense, writing in vivid colorful flow. Her writings now are lacking thought...or, even trying to capture the readers imagination.
Please get this book at a used book store (paperback) There are many great writers out in the world.

The book was not the type I am used to from Ms Cornwall. I was expecting the Scarpetta type and I just never got into this book and did not finsih it. I will be sure it is a Scarpetta nover next time. It seems when Cornwall tries to change directions and get away from her norm...the book lacks luster

This book was full of action and the writing flowed so well that I didn't want to put the book down. I got this since it is the second book in the Winston Garano series and thought it would be good. I am however, a little disappointed. I absolutely love and always looked forward to the latest and newest Kay Scarpetta novels, but this is a nice change of pace dealing with a man as the main character. I do, however, wish Patricia would come out with a new Scarpetta book.

I have been a fan for a long time but this one does it for me. She has before added her librel bias remarks to her books but not as open as this time. I don't see that anything is added to the story by adding this kind of bias, except the author venting and imposong her own bias views. Well I'm history because of this attitude. I had hoped that she was smarter then this not to be swayed by the librel press, but I guess not. Anyhow no more from this author for me.

Sometimes it it hard to follow the plot, it jumps from one thing to another.
I did enjoy it though.

I have read all of Patricia Cornwells books but this one was a snooze! It was nothing like any of her others and it was hard to keep up with. It switched around with all its characters without explaining who they were until further on. I don't recommend it.

  Riveting Crime Thriller!
Review created: 05/14/08

Patricia Cornwell once again shows us why she is the best crime writer known today. Win Garano and D.A. Lamont are back--one passionate and driven--the other caught up in power, politics and money--a dangerous combination for a woman with an agenda. Immersed in the world of Massachusetts police work and politics, another old case has Win searching for answers. The plot twists and turns are riveting and take you deeper and deeper and you can't put the book down! Scotland Yard--the FBI--The Mob--The Boston Strangler--the past and present on a collision course so well done, as a Massachusetts resident, I found myself wanting to check the news for developments in the cases! Don't miss this extraordinary tale, and be prepared to want more, Win Garano and D.A. Lamont are destined to be household names like Kay Scarpetta and Marino, you will be moved by the man, his family and colleagues, characters as only Cornwell can present them.

I received the book very quickly. The book was exactly as described. I believe I ordered from this customer because they were here in Illinois. I haven't started it yet, but I think I will like Cornwell. It sounds very interesting.

The Front by Patricia Cornwell - good title
Review created: 10/03/09

I always enjoy Patricia's books. Seems like once you pick one up and start reading you just can't put it down. After you finish reading it then you can't wait until the next one. I just hope she keeps up the good stories. I am really looking forward to the movies. I just wonder which one of her books the first movie will be based on. Just can't wait.

  WASTE OF TIME

Only Patricia Cornwell could take a half-baked short story and have it published in hardback. The plot does not exist. It appears to be a continuation of some other story. Couldn't have been more boring. A rip-off at 75 cents!

Different style from the Scarpetta series. Nice that she is writing about a male and the problems that occur to him. It is a fast summer read, highly recommended. Second Winston Garano, Patricia Cornwell, book I have read this summer. Would recommend that book also, At Risk.

  Fast Read--Great Beach Book!
Review created: 06/02/08
by:

Win Garano is back as the Massachusetts State Police investigator--this time he is investigating a cold case involving a British woman with possible ties to the Boston Strangler. Once again he spars with DA Monique Lamont & her political agendas. The only drawback with this series is that they are relatively short compared to her Kay Scapetta novels and not as in depth with the storylines. As with her first novel in this series, the ends tie up a bit too quickly for my taste--not as intense as the Scarpetta series.

I have all of Patricia Cornwell books. So I know her books are good. You can't go wrong on most of her books. Even though I have found a few that are down right boring.Like the Jack the Ripper book. I like the Kay Scarpetta books the most! Murder Mysteries are the best she writes.
