Friendly Persuasion (DVD, 2000)

I first saw this movie with my family at a drive-in theater in 1956. I was just a child but it left such an impression on me that I would eagerly wait for it to be on TV from time to time as the years went by. It is a beautifully made movie with wonderful performances by Gary Cooper,Dorothy McGuire,and Anthony Perkins plus a superior supporting cast. This film stands the test of time. The photography is beautiful. The musical score is moving. The story has warmth, humor and heart. It remains one of my favorite films!

Great old flick with a excellent message for us all. Humorous, great actors,and good clean fun. This dvd makes the film come alive with beautiful color and clear picture.

My Mom and Dad saw this 20 years ago - or more on TV. But for years it was no where to be found - except when you got lucky at the library ~* which was always a rare thing to find a movie when you wanted it.

But, it has always been a family favorite with us. It just "Good, clean, wholesome fun". It is so hard to find a movie these days that you can completely relax with -- without the worry of bad words, adult content, and bad humor.

I highly recomend this movie to anyone looking for a safe movie to watch with the children. You can't go wrong this this movie!

*** AND shows how the men had to choose between sitting out the war VS Protecting and Defending thier families when they are threatened.

It is truely a heartwarming and very funny movie to share with the whole family.

I loved this movie it was made when Hollywood still knew something about right and wrong. It deals with problems we face today and they don't deal with the politically correct thing but they do the right thing...and aren't ashamed to do it. It's a must have if you don't want to watch R rated everything including commercials. Show this to your family the writing is wonderful...you laugh and cry. You'll never forget it.

This is the lovely, heartwarming story of a Quaker family during the Civil War. The nature of their religion is gentle and kind which makes them pacifists during wartime... not an easy road. The older son (Tony Perkins, learning to brood for his role in Psycho!)is torn between his upbringing and his need to defend his home and family when the war encroaches on their quiet life. This story is so full of rich characterization and detail that you feel like you are part of the family, right down to the crazy goose in the opening scenes! I bought this movie because I had rented it from Netflix and just HAD to have a copy for my own DVD library. This is a story I will watch over and over again!

Saw this movie as a child with my parents. Have tried to find it and was so grateful to do so on Ebay. Movie is wonderful story with great family values. Comedy,drama all in one. This seller was very communicative and very reasonable with lightning shipping. Recommend to all!

This movie is a classic. I absolutely LOVE it. I saw the movie years ago and loved it so much I had to buy it ! Gary Cooper is fantastic in this movie.

I find this movie particularly interesting as I am a Quaker. I understand the conflicts portrayed in the film and appreciated how the director treated the serious beliefs.

I had seen this movie years ago and just recently a friend reminded me about it. I decided to try to find it on e-bay. I did get it and my husband and I watched it and enjoyed it all over again. Gary Cooper and the other cast were wonderful. It was so nice to veiw a nice, clean, entertaining movie! We enjoyed it so much we bought a second copy for our friends. They also enjoyed it. It has humor and love of family and friends.

Everything was absolutely wonderful! The DVD was a Christmas present for my father and he loved it! The movie is a funny classic. The package came in good timing and was not harmed by the mailing system. My dad has asked for this DVD for years, but I could not find it anywhere in stores. Ebay is a great place to purchase this item.

One of my favorite films, and exhibiting Gary Cooper at his best. The script is excellent, the acting superb. Understated performances that highlight the solid storyline. With priceless facial expressions, Cooper's comedic timing,
spiced with trademark doubletakes, shows the range of his talent and ability,
underrated by some in the business. Tony Perkins gives us a glimpse of those sheepish physical gestures that sent teenieboppers into sheer ecstasy. Peter Mark Richman holds his own in his film debut. The parlor scene with Marjorie Main is classic.

Friendly Persuasion has been my favorite movie ever since I saw it the first time. I have watched it several times and it is still just as fresh as the first time. A good family movie with morales and values not seen much any more. It arrived in excellent condition and in a timely manner.

Feel good movie with light humor and perfect for family viewing. Story evolves around an Amish family and how they deal with everyday temptations. with love and the ongoing Civil war. Excellent quality DVD with realistic coloring.

I like movies like this one that have lessons in life to learn witha little twist of humor and some romance. I enjoyed the double meanings by Gary Cooper's character, and how he kept a balance during a very rough time for his family that challenged all they held dear and stood for in their time of crisis during the Civil War. Very family oriented.

A true to life film regarding the inner conflicts felt by many during the Civil War. Quakers in Indiana felt the same pressure to fight/or not fight as well as help runaway slaves. Great actors with a wonderful message. A tender movie about horrible circumstances, but showing it perfectly from the Quaker point of view. Good movie for upper elementary children to view and then discuss the Civil War.

A classic what more could you ask for!!! I have watched it several times and will enjoy it for years to come. I would say this is one of the best FAMILY movies ever made.
