The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs, Kathleen Jacobs (2007, Hardcover)

This book is not like so many out there with a knitting based overtone in that the story is paramount. Many of the 'knit titles' could drop in scrapbooking, parasailing, motorcross... whatever is the hottest trend just to sell books. This author realizes that while knitting may hook (sorry about that, I couldn't resist) readers, they won't comeback for future titles if her characters and plot aren't stronger than her craft association. This book delivers both.

wonderful,feel good book about the power of friendship and the comfort of a learning a craft to occupy the mind and hands. highly recommended; but expect to cry.

I am an avid knitter and have read lots of knitting fiction. This is by far one of the worst books I have read although I did finish it. Most knitters I know, including those on ravelry.com really did not like the book. The characters were not engaging (I didn't cry when one of the main characters died; she was annoying mostly) and I didn't feel any connection to this group of women. I have read many more books along this line with either knitting or book clubs as the central theme that were better written and more engaging. Fortunately, I borrowed this from the library; working at a bookstore, I have warned several customers away from this book. Heard there was a ghost writer and a lawsuit (didn't change names of characters) through the rumor mill. Incredible!

I bought this book as a gift for my cousin. Since she is a big knitting person she loved the book and recommends it very much.

This book was very entertaining.The book is fiction but it had interesting twists and turns. The ending was even more of a surprise. It is a god bok to curl up with and read. It's interesting to see the dinamics betwen strangers that become friends and how their lives become intertwined. If you do not knit after you read this you will want to start knitting if you don't already. I bought the book because my book club discusion group selected this book. I was glad because it was good, light reading. Enjoy!
