Movie Description
Tom Huang directs and stars in his debut feature FRESHMEN, which centers around four college students from very different backgrounds who learn more about themselves and each other in an American history class. San Ling (Huang) is an Asian-American student whose fascination with popular culture has alienated him from his Chinese heritage. Tonisha Watkins (N.D. Brown) is an African-American student working her way through college in hopes of transcending her inner city neighborhood. Rick Kennedy (Kurt Koehler) is a sheltered rich kid struggling to deal with a confusing new environment of racial diversity, and Judy Oz (Margaret Scarborough) is the campus party girl just looking for a good time. Huang's sensitive, award-winning film follows the four students in and out of the classroom as they maneuver through their freshman year and the challenges of identity and adulthood.
