I THINK ALL THE "FOR DUMMIES" BOOKS ARE PRETTY WELL DONE. THEY USE HUMOR TO HOLD YOUR ATTENTION. THIS BOOK IS ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR BEGINNERS I THINK. I'VE BEEN DOING THIS AWHILE

Excellent book. Insight is very good without revealing

This book was recommended by a friend who is a Mason. Reading the book allowed me to make my choices without fear. The book gives very good insight without revealing Masonry's few secrets. It shares in the history of Freemasonry and sheds light on the many myths and untruths circulating about the organization. I recommend this book to anyone seriously interested in joining the Freemasons, or those who endeavor to believe the many falsehoods circulating about the group.

I enjoyed this book. Every new Mason would benefit from this book. Covers a lot of things that you might be unsure of. Terms that you hear but don't know and are afraid to ask because you might feel stupid, well this helps. From the beginning to the end it's a good book of knowledge. And, it gives no secrets away either.

It's an easy read. The format is simple and very easy to grasp. You don't even need to read it in order from page to page, you can always go to the chapters which interests you more. I can even use it as a reference.

Basic information on Freemasonry - good read...

This book is a good reference guide for the beginner - which is what it was designed for - as a starting point... However, if you have done alot of research and read alot of history books on the subject you might not find as much detail as you are looking for. In the back of this book there is a fantastic section on sub-organizations that does a great job of explaining in details what the purpose of each organization is and where to go on the internet to find more details about them. I recomend this book to anyone who is trying to find out general details about the Freemasons!

I decided to purchase this as birthday gift for someone. Although he has not read it yet I have scanned it and found it very interesting. The service was excellent and I enjoyed my first purchase on eBay.

This book gives the reader a look into the Masonic world. It opens the doors in a lot of areas and put to rest concerns that I had regarding the fraternity. Since i have found this book i have also located other books on Masons and for the price of this book, it will help answer questions that ou have, but there are better books out there.

having recently joined the lads in norway, i needed to find out more about the whole movement and what i had gotten into. i still can't say why i joined (the nosey/curiosity factor played a part if i am totally honest)but this book keeps the reader engaged, it is informative (without giving the game away) and is kept light hearted enough to bring a smile and giggle to your face. it does exactly what it sets out to do, it keeps it simple (stupid) (k.i.s.s.). an awful lot of crap has been written in the past by both masons and anti masons, i am no expert on masonry but to anyone who has more than a passing interest (nosey parkers etc) your girl friend, wife, best mate or whoever, then this book covers the historical side and brings you bang up to date and gives you a clear idea of what is involved in masonry. finally if your loking for sensationalism, tabloid trash, world domination, expose etc etc its all here but put into context and leaves you to make your own mind up about the drivel that grabs the headlines. its a dummies book, that should be enough recommendation enough in itself and the author (christopher hodapp)certainly gets a big two thumbs up from my myself........(i don't know if thats a secret sign of the lads yet!)

  Great Book
Review created: 01/09/09

I always thought of myself as "the great scholar of freemasonry" however this book gave me a BIG reality check. What I like most was the fact that you don't have to read it like most conventional books(front to back). I do however would have liked it to have more information on Latin American and Black Lodges and how they impact the Craft today.
I think this would be a great book for any mason or non mason looking to find out more about Freemasonry
