Freedom Writers (DVD, 2007, Full Frame)

This was the first truly inspiring movie I’ve seen in ages. Though lessons can be learned by watching just about any movie out there, I feel that this particular film would speak to almost anyone - regardless of race, gender or age.

Based on the diary entries of students that attended Woodrow Wilson HS in California, this movie artfully recounts the dedication one teacher had for her students. Her rigid determination to get through to her class full of kids on probation, juvenile delinquents, and gang members, before they became the dropouts the school board expected, or worse…lost their lives on the streets, was admirable. Erin Gruwell embodies what it means to be an everyday hero. Her story and those of her students, gave me the burning desire to get out there and make a difference in someone else‘s life and I'm sure it will have the same effect on you!

Very good movie. It is similar to Dangerous Minds so if you like that movie you will definitely like this one. I can't say much for a review without using movie details. I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't watched it yet. I am glad I purchased it for my collection. Great movie!

Freedom Writers

There isn't much to say about this film that "Must watch" and "Movie of the Year" doesn't cover.

Freedom Writers is amazing, plain and simple. It's worth watching again and again. Hilary Swank is amazing, inspirational, and fantastic.

Freedom Writers is for anybody who has a heart or a soul. It will reach inside and grab hold of you. This film makes you want to make a difference.

This excellent movie is based on a true story about a novice teacher's first job where the rate of failing far surpasses that of succeeding. This teacher is not about to accept that, in spite of not being supported by her colleagues. If you're a teacher this is an especially poignant film, if not it's all about how to succeed against all odds. Well worth the time and money!

I love this movie!! Freedom Writers is based on a true story. Soon after the Rodney King incident & rioting in the Los Angeles area, 1992-1994 is where this story begins. A lovely girl with a big heart chooses to begin her teaching career in Long Beach, CA. That area filled with gang violence, drive bys and terrible home lives was a challenge to say the least, and the school test records were not good. This teacher works her way into her student's lives and creates a safe place to them, becoming a family somewhat in the class room. A real "feel good movie", shows how much 1 person who decides to make change CAN! I lived in Los Angeles during that time frame, also had my first son there. I thought it would be a nice piece of history to own to show him what where he was born looked like in that time frame.

* I bought this movie because, this is a movie that can be watched over and over
and you you will see something different each time.

* What I liked most is the realism that it portrayed and it was well directed.
The actors did not over play there parts and it made it very personal.

* I did not find any part that I did not like.

I love that movie becasue of the teacher who has not given up the students and she loves her job helping the students and it is true story it was amazing!!

this was really a great movie lots of real life sceem in it this movie can teach you about the real life history ! theres so much crime in this world that movies like this can teach you the meaning of how to cope w/ it this one person took her own life and turned it aroynd to help theses kids fine the ture meaning of life great movie .

This is a very well written TRUE story about a dedicated young teacher against both a classroom of young thugs at war with the world around them and school system filled with disallusioned teachers who are just putting in their time. The movie was well cast, the acting was excellent and Hillary Swank was, as is the norm for her, outstanding in the lead role.
I bought this DVD because some pictures are just to good to only watch one time. I would recommend adding Freedom Writers to every serious movie addict's collection.

I was captivated by this movie. This story is what America needs today, to be inspired to think out of the box and to care for people more than money or power. To recognize and speak to the highest good in people as this teacher does is truly moving and to see the results is nothing short of a miricle. Thank you for your gift from the heart.

Freedom Writers is an inspirational movie that reminds us that it's the choices we make that defines who we are. It also reminds us that in the face of difficulty, we should do what's right instead of doing what's popular or tradition. I would recommend this movie to anyone who teaches, mentors, or has children.

One of my all-time favorite movies! It looks at an important issue in the U.S., but most importantly for me, it inspires future teachers. Definitely a movie I would recommend to anyone!

This movie is one of those movies that will make you laugh, cry be mad and a whole gamit of emotions. I am so glad that it was recomended to me. I also bought the freedom writers diary. This is a movie that I will watch many many times.

Great movie if you're into social justice and education. It will motivate anyone with a heart and passion for youth. Great movie to show to kids at the high school or middle school level. Absolutely LOVED IT!!

This movie shows what can happen when you are willing to invest time, money and effort into someone else and what they can do when they buy into what you see in them.

I bought this as a gift for my daughter she loved the movie and had been wanting the DVD so I purchased it for amuch better price and it was shipped to me, so I saved in the price of gas also.. love to purchase gifts on ebay helps to keep secrets for the holidays. That way my kids aren't with me when I shop.

This is an excellent movie and shows how 1 person can make a difference in the lives of so many others just by showing how much they care. The actors all did a great job and portrayed the characters so well. I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone.

The freedom writers is possibly one of the best movies ever. Its a must see. Truly inspiring. It gives you hope that one person can make a difference. Its a real human interest story.

This movie shows that all things are possible with hope and dedication. It helps people to realize imaginary boundaries can be overcome when we look at other people for who they really are instead of through bigotry and stereotyping. You need to be true to yourself first and foremost.

This was my compare and contrast essay assignment that I submitted this weekend. Don't know how I will be graded but I really enjoyed this movie for what it stands for and of course comparing to Cry Freedom...Sarafina the African way; was good enough.

This movie is excellent. It talks about racial tension and education. This is two things that are vital in our society in America. Must See Movie
