Norma Shearer and Clark Gable had great chemistry and I believe out of all his leading ladies, Shearer was the one who had IT! - in terms of chemistry and sexiness - with Gable.
The story is a little corny - with dark character (played Gable) no hero at all, but a villain filled with lust. The script lacks in convincing us of just why the Shearer character from a high class, blue-blood family would want Gable, except for the obvious reason of sex. Therefore, in this film, the Gable/Shearer chemistry dissolves into darkness and opacity.
