The opening "Swans" sounds, likely not coincidentally, very much like the druggy, sludgy noise rock of the iconic 1980s rockers of the same name; the rest of FREE GOLD is not quite so baldly indicative of its influences, but the disorienting noise-psychedelia of the album's 14 tracks also brings to mind Pink Floyd, Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire, and the early pre-disco industrial bands.
