Freaks and Geeks - The Complete Series (DVD, 2004, Deluxe; 8-Disc Edition)

This show is a flashback to the 80's. The clothes are perfect and the music hits the right cord too. The story line is interesting and it evolves through the episodes. The cast does a terrific job too. A few progressed to more fame--Linda Carterelli went on to be Velma in Scooby Doo movies. James Franco is the Green Goblin's son in Spiderman movies and plays James Dean in a movie too. The geeks are hilarious. It's too bad they cancelled the series. It's great. Good thing it's out on this dvd.

If you missed this jewel when it originally aired you are in for a rare treat. This well written, poignant and funny depiction of the Weir family's two high school children and their respective freak and geek friends is an honest and insightful walk through high school set in 1980's Michigan. The characters are richly developed and portrayed by a cast of truly talented actors. The DVD set offers optional commentary narrated by Judd Apatow, Martin Star (Bill) and John Francis Daley (Sam)that has some truly funny comments, many that are unrelated to the show but totally entertaining and well worth the time. As is often the case, the network did not support this show as it should have and sadly it was canceled before it ran the full season. If you are a fan of "My So Called Life" another show abandoned, then killed by network nitwits, I guarantee you will love it!
