Freaks (DVD, 2004)

I just had to own this classic. Amazing movie, especially for its time. You come to have great compassion for the "freaks" in this movie who are more normal than the "normal" people. Not only did I get the movie because I wanted to see it again (own it), I wanted my kids (they're teen agers) to have a chance to watch it just in case - heaven forbid - it becomes one of the forgotten oldies. You'll come away feeling a bit more compassionate for those who may be a little different, and look at the "beautiful people" with a sharper eye. Great movie - great team of performers - great vision by Tod Browning.

I bought this just on a whim as I had heard of it but never had a chance to see it. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. It's a very nice story with good acting. I really don't see the circus freaks as being exploited at all for this. It's a very charming film.

This resurrected cult classic that I first saw in the 60's is even more interesting now. Whether it is my own maturity or that society is now more willing to accept people that are "different," this movie is just as shocking and fascinating now as it was then. It must have really caused a stir when first released in 1937.Made almost entirely with circus "freaks" as actors, this story is a behind the scenes look at a hidden society with it's own code of conduct. The story line isn't overwhelmingly complicated nor deep but it is still worth watching. Even more interesting is the extra footage that introduces the viewer to the real "freaks" and there own personal journeys through life with tremendous obstacles.

From the Siamese twins to the half-man. Midgets to pinheads, where normal is abnormal. This is a must have movie for any cult film collection. Tod Browning , who was at one time a side show contortionist, direct this classic circus freak show. Giving us a different view of the inner working of the old time side shows. And show us just how close the circus family of oddities has become, and their view of the so called normal world around them. Gooble-gobble, gooble-gobble, we accept her, we accept her, will ring in your ears and you will not look upon a special person again without wondering just who the real freaks of the world are.

I love old movies and this one is a classic. It isn't for everyone, but shows the past and the spirit of the disabled. It shows how they were viewed and the limited options they had in the past.
I like to view movies when I have time, so it is nice to own my own movie library.

A historic look into the world of the 'Freak' show, showing them as just performers like any other performers. Though this is a very distrubing movie it preserves an important part of entertainment history.

What makes this movie tower above all movies made in Hollywood in let's say the last two decades is that it is character-driven. No one has magic powers or special effects. What is more, the characters show that their humanity is their super power. You will fall in love with, and never forget any of the characters of this movie, because they so much are natural and being exactly who they are.

I love this classic. Horrible "normal" people prove to be monsters and the "freaks"...the salt of the earth.

Uh....this movie is definitely an "acquired taste". I personally didn't sit through more than 5 minutes of this movie,but it was a gift for someone and that person is very happy with the item. The dvd and case were in perfect condition.

Are you tired of fake digital monsters and special effects? Well, this movie is for you! The people in it really are from a circus and they are scary as hell! Especially the guy with no arms or legs. I purchased this movie and my kids are terrified of it. It came quick and is in perfect condition. Buy this movie if you like Freaky things. It's great

This is great DVD, not for everyone, of course- but certainly a look at things you have never seen on film before or since. Surprising how good the acting is- the story weaves well with the characters

A great classic!Banned in England when first released, FREAKS is the haunting tale of misplaced love, deciet, and unsettling images! Casts consists of real carnival folk of the time making the movie all to real. PLOT: A beautiful average normal woman falls "in love" with the carnival's midgett after hearing she could inherit his money. THe rest of the "freaks" catch on to her game and teach her lesson she will never forget... and neither will you! Great movie highly recommended.

Excellent movie!!! Unbelievable what some of these people with disabilities in this movie can do!!!! I wish they had given this movie a different name because people with disabilities are not freaks!!! NOBODY IS PERFECT!!!!!!!!!

It was exactly what I wanted! Brand new still sealed. I had been looking for this DVD for a long time and turned to EBAY and there it was. Shipping took a little longer than I anticipated but was well worth the wait.

great movie. a bit hard to understand what they are saying at times, but the ending is really cool. the freaks are real, they can teach you a lot about life, and not to judge people by how they look.

This is a reasonably short film in black and white. I think most people will find something interesting about it.

Very good movie for the era. Would have been better in color, however; the quality was good in black & white.

This is a LIFE CHANGING movie. After experiencing it you will be just a little bit wierder, a touch more sofisicated, and a lot more thoughtful of your place in this world.
No special effects, these actors are real. They are fascinating. Invite a group of friends over for movie night and find out who they really are.

Very, very under-rated movie. very violent, but the violence can not harm the beauty of this movie. a sad tale about a circus midget and his love with a beautiful carny (kind of an oxy moran!) The woman agrees to marry him, making the midget's girlfriend very jealous (oddly enough she's played his real-life daughter) he's unaware that beauty just wants his money. must-see!

I bought this Movie because as a child I watched it many year ago. I thought it was a great classic and I was happy to have found it for such a great buy here on Ebay. The Seller who had this Film (DVD) was awesome and he/she provided excellent customer service from start to finish.

I decided to purchase this movie after we saw the last half on late night tv. It is such a bazar movie and the extra features are extremly interesting. These are real people making a living off of their oddity of birth. The story has a super strange ending. It is a classic movie that everyone should see. It makes you think about how people with deformities manage to survive in a "normal world" and how the human spirit persevers.
