  Old Timers
Review created: 01/06/09

I grew up in a small town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula surrounded by the forest. I remember a lot of the old timers, a bunch of characters for sure! I do consulting work at times and also work with some Amish friends as they take me back to my younger years in how they do things! I am purchasing most of the Foxfire books for their use. It is always interesting to see how the old timers did things with so little. The Amish are much the same. Many of the Amish lead an idealic lifestyle, but not all. Some have the freedom from the bondage of religion and others are in bondage to it. Freedom is knowing Christ as your Savior, very simplistic and thruthfully. They best describe how, why and what the principles were that our country was founded upon. That comes out in the Foxfire series of books. They will glean much information from these books.

Typical Foxfire - Good read with alot of information you wil never need but will never forget. The railroad lore, depression-era Appalachia and whirligigs were very interesting. I really enjoy this book and pick it up often and can kill an hour reading and thinking before I know it. Recommend highly if you are into Appalachia or yesteryear.

  FOXFIRE 10

The Foxfire seris was popular in the 70"s. Eventually all of the volumes faded from sight and very few people remembered them. I had always intended to buy the whole set but never got around to it. Over the years I thought about the books and regretted never following up on my desire to ownthe whole set.
When I discovered EBAY, I thought I would type in the tittle just to see and they were volumes andvolumes for sale. i felt like a kid in a candy store and began buying them. All of the volumes I have bought so far have been in great condition. The sellers I have dealt with have been fantastic.
I am so glad thqt there is an EBAY. I probably would never have been able to fulfill mu quest without it.
