Synopsis A large family of bears--14 in total!--enjoys a summer crowded with woodland walks, fun, and snacks galore. Living together in a lovely forest, the bears enjoy many different activities, from knitting (Mother Bear), to playing the guitar (little Hannah), and even painting pictures (Virginia, named after the illustrator). Everyone but baby Theodore, who lives with Mother and Father, has a special hollow tree, decorated in all styles that range from modern to medieval. Swimming, sunbathing, and eating flavored honey are all special summer activities. In the winter, everyone hibernates, but Theodore gets everyone up after two months of slumber to experience the snow, ice skating, and a glimpse of their first Christmas tree. Originally two separate books, these have been reissued together, filled with cheerful, energetic art.
