This book confirms what I have been doing all along: trying to live a real life rather than a vicarious one. One that I choose, not one that has been sold to me. It is interesting that it was written 30+ years ago. Someone had the ability to see how damaging television would be to civilization, but it is a shame that so few knew of the book or its message when it was published.

Perceptive and SHOULD change the way you think about tv

I read this book about 18 years ago and I remember it had a very big impact on me. Mr. Mander does a great job of offering not just common sense arguments for getting rid of television but a detailed, thoughtful and objective perspective on the machine and it's influence. Sometimes it's hard to see the forest for the trees but this book really offers something uniqe to consider. An important read.

The Title Alone Doesnt Do This Book Justice
Review created: 05/07/08

This book is great because it breaks down the science of television as well as the philosophy. Very detailed indeed, and it shows you the physiological effects as well as the societal and psychological. Everyone who watches television should read this book, because its contents seriously changed my life and the way I view things.
