Ayn Rand really captures the long and short term cost and benefits of people who live according to Objectivism and Altruism over the course of their lives. Which basically details great logical arguments for making selfish life choices and the evils of conforming personal decisions just for the approval and praise of others.

This tape version is great if you enjoy quick fixes of simplified storyline while driving in your car to work. The price I paid for this set is reasonable and the reader does his job to maintain your complete attention. Be careful when switching between each tape while driving home.If you purchased the CD format, be sure to rip a copy to be played on your PSP or iPod to avoid taking your eyes off the road.

  Well...

The book was long. Let's just throw that out there first. It was way too long. I mean, the story and the plot were intriguing, but it was just too drawn out. Everything in the book, including all of Rand's philosophies and character descriptions could have fit into a much smaller book by still getting the same point across.

Other than that, it was a pretty good story. The characters were somewhat real, except for perhaps Ellsworth Toohey. I really don't know anyone in the real world who could just start blurting out a perfectly derived speech completely composed of vocab words. But whatever, I suppose she had to get out her philosophy through someone.

The ideas of objectivism and individualism are portrayed very strong throughout the book, and that is the reason I like it. It's good to read something that challenges your brain every once in a while, and that is what this book does.
