This book goes into details about the founding of America. It is a must-have for any History fan but is a dry read for someone like me who enjoys fantasy and Gothic appeals.

  History about early America
Review created: 02/01/09

Bought it for my husband. He loves the history you don't normally find in school textbooks, and this is very interesting to him. We first found the book at a coffee shop and then he asked to have it as a Christmas gift.

  Founding Brothers Book Review
Review created: 09/30/07
by:

The book Founding Brothers was in good condition when I bought it. The seller warned that it was used before and so the cover was written on, and there were some coffee stains on the book, but for simply reading the book, the wear and tear does not interfere with concentrating. The book itself is not that great but it was a requirement for my daughter to read for school so I had to buy it for her. Its a good book to read if you're interested in the start of this country and the important founders of it.

  Founding Brothers
Review created: 09/04/06

I bought this book because I had to read it for my AP US History class over the summer, not because I was in the mood to read about our nation's founding. The book, to me began in a very creative fashion, but after awhile lost my interest. Personally, I'm only a fan of social studies, most certainly not anything that deals with government or war. For someone like me, this book wasn't written correctly because it's more for mor mature audiences. Don't get me wrong, if you absolutely LOVE history, by all means go ahead and enjoy, but if it's not really your thing, thne you shouldn't bother. I don't mean to put the book down, but I really struggled just to get through it simply because the way the author wrote bored me most of the time. Now of course, if you're getting this book because you have to, then iw ish all the luck in the world reading it and for a bit of optimism, HAVE FUN! :0)

Solid Work on the Founding Era with Some Flaws
Review created: 10/18/04
by: cbaker8887 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Solid and unique analysis.

Cons:
Uneven in parts.

Written as a series of vignettes with an underlying theme, Founding Brothers offers insight into the tenuous nature of the new nation springing from the American Revolution. While there is no real groundbreaking research here, what this work does offer are some insights into the men who were essential in creating the United States, and offers us a reminder that the success of the new nation was far from inevitable. In fact, the nation survived in spite of some very key differences between the founders as to where sovereignty should ultimately lie in the new governing regime. And,it should be..

  Lively American history
Review created: 09/13/04
by: wizzle -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Vastly entertaining

Cons:
Wish it were a bit more in depth.

While a fairly lightweight by history standards, this book is well worth the read. It is history the way you wish it had been taught in high school, succinct, fast paced and tremendously entertaining. Being short, it doesn't have the depth of the lengthy tomes. But as an overview and as a sometimes acerbic commentary, the book is likely to whet the reader's appetite for other books about the period.

The Revolutionary Generation in 2 years & 8 days.
Review created: 08/27/03
by: yosi- -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Summarizes the politics of our founding brothers with great ease of reading.

Cons:
A founding father that you might have held as a hero may be tarnished.

August 6th, 2001 A good friend of mine referred this book to me. By the end of 2001 I had purchased a copy on-line at a fairly reasonable price. During the spring of 2002 I started reading chapter one and was half way through the chapter when I put the book away. My personal interests were distracted and I started reading Sci-Fi novels again. Here it is 2 years later and in June I picked up this book again and started reading from the beginning, I now regret ever putting the book down. Politics is an interesting past time; it transcends both the past and the future, as it is in our everyday...

Founding Brothers: Short Stories on the People & Ideas That Shape America
Review created: 09/13/02
by: Mr.Eyore -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Tightly written lay account is perfect read for history novice

Cons:
None

Joseph J. Ellis, author of the National Book Award Winning Jefferson biography American Sphinx has hit another home run with Founding Brothers, a history of America in the 1790's, which picked up the Pulitzer Prize in 2001. The book draws extensively on an astounding number of more scholarly works, and Ellis is quick to thank some of academia s greatest living historians for their input, but it is no mere compilation of smarter peoples thoughts. The author has a gift for pulling out the great themes that drive American history and for presenting those themes in a way that the most lay readers.

Founding Brothers: "Voices that speak to us across the ages "
Review created: 11/28/01
by: mkp51 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Beautifully written in a lively, entertaining style; fair, impartial and judicious.

Cons:
None

Whenever I walk into a bookstore, I always head first to the history and biography sections in the hopes of discovering something new and intriguing... and the larger the better! I have predilection for "fat" books; consequently, I whenever I leave a bookstore with a book tucked under my arm, that book usually is very well written, finely detailed, and very, very long typically 500 pages or more! Very rarely do I find a small book that combines the sterling attributes of outstanding writing style, historical accuracy, impartiality and brevity. One such volume that I found recently is Founding.
