Found Dogs by Elise Lufkin (2005, Paperback)

As the owner of a rescued dog, I decided to buy this book and the companion Second Chances for my wife's birthday and anniversary present. The stories will delight you and bring tears to your eyes. These are true to heart stories that only people who adopt will understand and appreciate. My wife and I agree that our dog has the characteristics and qualities of the dogs in this book. If you have never adopted a dog from a shelter, you must read this book and even if you have, you should still read this book. A perfect gift for the dog lover in your family. One word of caution, you will be tempted to run down to your nearest animal shelter after reading it!

Wonderful book - full of heart warmimg true stories. Great present for yound or old or in between. If you don't already love dogs and dog people, we will after reading this book.

A must for any dog lover. Actually purchased 2nd book first and knew that I had to go back to the beginning to feel good about the entire experience.

This book and its companion book are amazing. The stories of dogs that were found as strays or adopted from shelters or rescues are inspiring. Anyone who is thinking about getting a dog should read this book! Some of the stories brought me to tears.

Having been in animal rescue for over 10 years, it is nice to see happy endings. Many times you don't know if the animal was happy or what may have happened.
I enjoyed the book because the stories were short and it could easily be put down and picked up again when you were ready to resume reading again.
I would have liked to see the pictures in color instead of black and white, but each story had a picture so you could see the animal being written about.
All in all, it was an enjoyable read.

Thoroughly enjoyed both this book and it's sister volume, Second Chances - More Tales of Found Dogs.
