Forrest Gump is by far one of the greatest movies of our time and definitely earned all the awards it received. Tom Hanks and Gary Sinese do a great job from beginning to end. The story of Forrest Gump is one that anyone can cherish. Because of some scenes and language, I would recommend parents follow the PG-13 rating, but otherwise its a movie any generation will enjoy.
The soundtrack for this movie is the best out there (which reminds me, I also recommend buying the soundtrack). There are some great classics that really bring you back to the time that Forrest is describing.
