Forgotten Patriots by Edwin Burrows
I decided to give Forgotten Patriots a try after checking out the biline. It is a very interesting read about the prisoners of war on the prison ships in and around New York City during the American Revolution. Burrows gives very descriptive accounts, sometimes to the point of repetition (including the words "destined for the cord"). The repetitive nature that this book sometimes had was not distracting from the overall message that Burrows is sending with this work. The title, Forgotten Patriots, sums up that message correctly and is a perfect title for such a work. Historians would enjoy this book along with the casual reader as it is a quick, engaging, read that is easy to understand.
