This 1956 movie was one of the best ever produced in that time period. The color and special effects are outstanding considering what they had to work with then. Robbie the robot was something people believed was far into the future. It became a real star during and after the movie's release and still is to this day.
I really enjoy Science Fiction movies and TV programs. This is one of the best SIFI movies ever made during that time period.
I bought this to add to my collection of SIFI movies from the past and present.

I first watched Forbidden Planet over 40 years ago, and except for Star Wars most other sci-fi movies produced before Star Wars and many since, have not met the standard set by Forbiden Planet. Charracteristic of nearly all movies produced by Hollywood in the 50's , 60's , and even the 70's , the acting was somewhat predictable and dated, the special effects rivaled and even surpassed the mid-grade computer-generated ones of today, and instead of the lone female getting all kinds of lewd and pornographic sex acts performed on her as in today's seemingly mandatory cinema obligations Forbidden Planet fortunately has merely overacted kissing portrayed. The rugrats at home won't be prompted to field-test recreational sex acts on the neighbor's kids after watching Forbidden Planet, not so with nearly all other genre of movies produced in the last twenty some years . I plan to let my grandkids watch it , and I know it will fascinate them the same way it did me forty some years ago .

Forbidden Planet: Best Sci Fi Movie Ever!
Review created: 04/16/07(updated 04/17/07)

You may think Star Wars qualifies as the best SciFi movie ever - but watch this movie to see where George Lucas claims to have gotten a lot of his inspiration. Lucas even pays tribute to Robby The Robot in the first Star Wars movie (Look in the background of the jawa landcrawler).

This movie has so much pop culture and well done special effects - that it will absolutely AMAZE you.

Very cool to see Leslie Neilson as a young actor - it will be hard for you to accept him a serious role after seeing him in the Naked Gun and Airplane movies.

I think we will find that the TV series "Lost" is based loosely on this movie and Shakespeare's The Tempest.

Even though this movie was made in the mid 50's - I doubt seriously that you will be able to spot any special effects. The special effects created for this movie stand up very well to even the latest Star Wars movies.

Great movie poster to own as well.

Fantastic clarity and color. Great restored soundtrack too. You even get a three inch collectible Robby inside the tin box and a flyer about how to buy a real Fred Barton Productions Robby replica. Well worth the money and the wait. Great supplemental info too. Warner Home Video did a great job.

Some of the best 1950ies science fiction. See Leslie Nielson before he went grey and starred in the Naked Gun movies,

Superb Quality in every way. Delighted.

I know this film well, having seen it as far back as 1966. I have seen it on TV, and Turner Classics, and also on VHS, where half the frame is lost to magnification. I wanted a wide screen version, and the price was right, so I ordered it, and hoped for the best.

You will see that the story of this 1956 film is fresher than most of the special-effect-centric drivel we see today. It's the seminal space sci-fi, and the true originator of premises though as innovative in the 60's 70's and 80's.

This is a great standard DVD. I have seen some DVDs of vintage movies where the color is washed out, and grain is more noticable than the image. This DVD is quite a pleasant surprise. It's vibrant, and flawless.

I highly recommend it, as a movie to see, and as from this seller.

 sci-fi classic
Review created: 08/12/08(updated 08/12/08)

anne francis, leslie nielson, walter pidgeon and the brilliant debut of robbie the robot...a sci-fi trend setter, with state of the art 1950's special effects...a drive-in classic, suitable for the whole family...made when movies were simpler, better acted and written...no blood and guts, no cheap sex and no deafening overwhelming explosions and special effects...just a good story about the human mind driven mad by a super computer in deep space and of course robbie...enjoy !!!

The definitive classic, all others have copied from it!
Review created: 07/28/08

Ahh... when I was a boy, I didn't sleep soundly for days after watching this one. Now, 40 years later, it's still good, and waaaaaay ahead of its time. My (much younger) wife watched it with me and said it was cheesy, but she didn't see it for its story line or its first-ever landmark movie making. Consider the task the makers wanted to undertake, the tools they had, the risk (money spent) in making it, the actors carrying an intellectual plot, making it believable, and you see professionals performing--in frontof, and behind the screen--at their finest. Film students and live art fans should have this just to see what can be done. I still think it's one of the best efforts ever done, considering the period it was done in. There's a lot of this movie in many of the subsequent sci-fi flicks and shows since.

None fo this is about me; watch it as a student of psychology, art, and theatre, and learn how something really great can be done!

A movie with a message on ego
Review created: 09/04/07

This classic movie has a very powerful message. This film may be old and there are no computer generated effects but the theme is current today as it was yesterday. One man's ego threatened to destroy the lives of the space travelers and even his daughter.

 Before It's Time
Review created: 08/07/06

This movie was definitely on the frontier when released. When viewing this movie from current day perspective, you can see elements of StarTrek, Lost in Space, and other "modern day" science fiction movies. Provocative in the notion that our minds can conjure the most wicked monsters. I highly recommend to any sci-fi buff! I am so pleased to own the DVD! Now I can watch time and time again. Terry M. Lee

Good movie but I never recieved it from the seller! And now he is gone! Apparently he sold the same movie to several buyers. When I checked why it wasn't here I came up with No Contact info because he has withdrawn his information. But it was the first time I had ever been stiffed on ebay.
Thanks

 Forbidden Planet DVD
Review created: 08/01/06

I have been looking for this dvd for awhile and could not find it any where. It is one of my favorite movies. I had also found a "Robby the Robot" model kit on ebay and needed it for clear reference shots. The quality of the movie is far superior than the vhs version I have and I'm so glad I found it.
Thanks ebay!
