Nice debut, but they hadn't yet reached their peak.
Essentially a solo album for Dave Grohl that he released the year after the tragic death of his band mate Kurt Cobain, Foo Fighters is an album that avid Foos fans (like myself) will no doubt enjoy, but it seems a little overly Nirvana-ish. The album has a nice balance within it, but the aforementioned likeness to Nirvana makes it sound like some of the tracks are simply covers of unreleased Nirvana songs, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
This album just feels like a mixed bag to me that is nowhere near the brilliance of "The Colour and the Shape" or "There is Nothing Left to Lose." Also, their newest album "Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace" is excellent
Highlights for me include I'll Stick Around, Big Me, and X-Static.
For folks who like Nirvana more than Foo Fighters, I'd recommend this first. But for everyone else this should be the last studio album of theirs to collect.
Solid, but not amazing 3 out of 5.
