Flyboys (DVD, 2009, 2-Disc Set; Collector's Edition)

I must say, the enjoyment I experience while watching this movie far exceeded my expectations. Rarely is this movie talked about anymore and I find it to be quite a disapointing shame. I just watched this movie for the first time this month and while it's been a few years since its initial release in theaters, it is perhaps one of my new found glories I will hold on to in my DVD collection.

The movie itself taps in to all the dynamic emotions war pilots endure during thier missions while having to live with one another (not really knowing each other upon their first meeting). It is a heart-wretching experience they all face as they try to prove something about what they are capable of acheiving to the ones they love and the person within themselves. The computer-imaged graphics are eye-appealing and perhaps as realistic as they can be with today's technology. Never did I feel as though I was watching a CGI film.

The Two-Disc Collector's Edition is a grand packaged treat to perserve the film and add to any series collector's shelf. The DVD set is incased in a cardboard slipcover box with gold foiled embrossed framing around the front (not overdone; not underdone either). Inside, there are five rare collector cards, similar to the old fashioned theater loby cards with pictures and detailed discriptions of either the scene or the individuals in the picture. The second disc is full of documentaries with the filmmakers and decendants of the real-life pilots portrayed in the movie about the accuracy of the film and history. Something to watch and experience.

In the end, I found myself wanting to watch this movie again. Granted the movie is longer than 2 hours (time that is a struggle sometimes to obtain for watching movies), I will be watching this movie again in the next week. Rarely has a movie made me want to come back and watch it immediately again as this film has done. A must see for romantics, historian buffs, and action lovers.

Like dogfighting in the movie, you don't see WW1 aerial scenes like that! Enjoyed it!Heard about about missed it at the threater, but still would have goten the DVD.
