Judy Garland is a performer who left behind magic; her records, films and TV appearances more than just document her skills as an entertainer, but contain the vestiges of a heart and soul that can still move the listener. Her 1963-64 television series is represented on this disc, and Garland's treatments are powerful as she is clearly not the puppet of a studio director anymore--she delves into songs and presents them with a pathos that will make you weak in the knees.
"Sweet Danger" is full of an exotic drama that Judy anchors in the port of our hearts. Her voice blasts with fervor, but on "A Foggy Day" and "A Cottage For Sale" she lowers the volume and moves the listener with subtlety. One needn't catch the lyrics; Garland's singing is pure emotional truth that stands above the words.
