Personnel: Laraaji (various instruments); Michael Brook.
Recording information: WK Studios, New York, NY.
Wondrously atmospheric and involving, Laraaji's purity of essence has become a virtual unknown quantity on the in-vogue ambient horizon. Largely shedding keyboards and samples for the sparklingly lustrous zither, he creates panoramas that are shimmering and dreamily effective. And while the addition of producer Michael Brook's--as well as Roger Eno's--contributions to "Laughing in Tongues" add a quasi-funky and trendy "pop" element, they are for the most part superfluous. "Being Here," the 25-minute epic opening excursion, is indicative of Laraaji's sterling ability to render mysterious environments all the more palpable, free of technological underpinnings.

Editorial Reviews
3 1/2 Stars - Good Plus - ...Laraaji creates music that seems to come from another world or culture....
