Album Notes Originally released in 1972 via Island Records, Japanese percussionist Stomu Yamashta's FLOATING MUSIC is an exemplary study in percussive ingenuity and jazz fusion innovation. Reissued in 2008 through Esoteric Recordings, it still sounds as fresh and exhilarating as when it first appeared. Along with fellow percussionist Morris Pert (Peter Gabriel, Bryan Ferry, Mike Oldfield) and progressive rock band Come to the Edge, Yamashta pushes the limits of collaborative improvisation into inventive avant-garde territory. The tracks "Poker Dice" and "One Way" were prominently featured in the 1976 David Bowie sci-fi film, THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH.
Editorial Reviews 5 stars out of 5 -- FLOATING MUSIC is stunning in its atmospherics, most notably on the spiraling 18-minute 'Poker Dice' and 'One Way'... Record Collector
