Firefly - Serenity and before

Firefly, Joss Whedon's third TV series (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel were his also) aired for one season 2002-2003, canceled after 11 episodes out of 14 aired.
A rare sparkling gem in a sea of mind numbing reality TV, Whedon works his magic combining an unlikely futuristic space drama with good ole' western adventure, complete with cowboys. This is a series that is not dumbed-down for the mass viewing public but instead challenges the viewers to pay attention and think. Actions have consequences and not everything is black and white. Whedon's genius shines through and you can tell this was his 'baby'. The characters are fully developed and the actors are a perfect fit for their rolls, you can't help but become involved with them. Will Mal ever admit his feelings for Inara, or her him? Will Simon allow himself to be with Kaylee or will he continue to feel responsible for River? Will Jayne grow-up? Will we ever find out just who Sheppard Book really is?
This isn't a chick flick - it isn't a manly man show. It has managed to have something for everyone with a generally humorous attitude. It's one of those shows you can watch over and over (and I have) and still be entertained and perhaps pick up a few things you missed the first (20-30) times around.
As with most canceled series, this DVD set leaves the tale of Serenity and her crew incomplete - I definitely recommend getting the movie "Serenity" along with it as the movie wraps up the story line.
