"Quite possibly the greatest game ever made" -GameFan Magazine

I think this quote sums it right up, taken directly from the reverse side of the Final Fantasy VII CD case. This game has almost been out for ten years now, so if you somehow haven't played it yet now would be a great time to begin.

In my opinion, Final Fantasy VII's story line is worlds and worlds beyond any other RPG. Secondly, the soundtrack composed by Nobuo Uematsu is hands down the best OST created for any video game. This was the game that sparked 3-D rpg gaming for years to come.

I specifically remember walking into Frys Electronics here in Arizona right when this game was released. I had no idea what this game was but it had a neat looking cover. This is not an exaggeration; the store had a 30 foot upper shelf of all assorted PS1 games, and the entire bottom shelf was ALL ENITRELY FINAL FANTASY VII GAMES. Yes, the story actually had as many copies of Final Fantasy VII to amount for every other video game in the store combined, in the PS1 category. That's when I knew this game was something special, so I instantly purchased it and have no regrets.

If you click my me page you will see it as #1 on my favorites list.

Though I can't imagine how in the world it could be possible for someone to be into RPG console gaming and NEVER experiencing Final Fantasy VII yet, but if this is the case buy the game immediately.

I vote this game 5/5, excellent, and out of my whole game collection consisting of thousands of titles, this is the greatest game I have ever played and I highly doubt that it will ever be topped in my lifetime.

Yes, it's that good.

The Core Playsation Game - A Must Play!
Review created: 09/23/05

Final Fantasy VII was the first ever 3D Final Fantasy game to hit the markets and was a highly anticipated hit.

The game is played in a turn-based RPG style and the premise is to save the world! (Is there any other premise for FF games?) Cloud, along with a group of his friends must collect Materias (orbs that contain special powers) to face off with Jenova and Sephiroth in the battle to save humanity.

The game is packed with great graphics for its time and many of the Final Fantasy summons from Final Fantasy VI and IV make an appearance in the game as well.

With the recent release of the sequel to Final Fantasy VII in DVD and UMD format(Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children), it's certain that those who watch the movie first will want to play the game as well! And for those of you who no longer have the game, you might want to pick up a copy for old time's sake.

This game, along with the movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (also available on eBay) would make a great gift for the holiday season!

A FINAL FANTASY (AND RPG) MILESTONE
Review created: 02/11/07
by:
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I played Final Fantasy VII when it first came out as an avid follower of the entire FF series, and it's been hailed as "quite possibly the greatest game ever made" by GameFan magazine. It's been entertaining FF fans for about ten years and the enthusiasm does not seem to have abated. Highly anticipated at the time as the first 3D FF game, it did not, and does not, disappoint. This is a must-have for any RPG gamer, and should be enjoyed even though technically is has since been surpassed by later installments in the series. For long-time RPG fans, this magnificent epic will bring a wave of nostalgia for the days when this was considered the height of technical advancement. For first-time players, the gameplay may seem outdated and the graphics blocky and awkward looking, but it sounds as though the superior aspects of the game still shine through when you read reviews from those playing for the first time.

PROS
- Hailed by many gamers to have the most compelling, in-depth, and emotional storyline of all the FF installments. Story is augmented by unique and original dialogue, dreams, memories, visions, and other enrichments that allow the player to delve deeper into the characters identities, personalities, and roles. Gamers will enjoy a memorable saga of friendship, love, politics, honor, bravery, sacrifice, corruption, surprising plot twists, superior villians, and much, much more.

- First FF game to offer 3D polygonal characters, an innovation at the time and still enjoyable.

- Multiple side quests and mini-games, including secret FMV's special moves, and hidden characters.

- Choose from nine playable characters recruited throughout the story.

- Contains over an hour of enjoyable full-motion video scenes throughout the game that draws the player deeper into the story, creating a movie-like environment.

- Players enjoy never-before character enhancements such as the auto status abilities such as auto haste, auto resurrection, and the ability to absorb magic from opponents.

- Expansive character and weapon customization, summons, and magic.

- Large, detailed, and delightful world that you can travel on foot, by chocoba or airship, or buggy.

- Memorable and fabulous musical score, one of the best I can remember in any FF or RPG game.

- One of the most memorable bad guys in RPG gaming history, Sephiroth!

CONS
- Overabundance of gil and ability to steal weapons takes the edge off the battles and "struggle" of characters during gameplay that has always been a hallmark of FF games.

- Not as challenging as past games.

  GREAT GAME !!!!!!!!

For starters, FFXII biggest advantage over pretty much every rpg to date is the size and population of its world. The towns in FFXII, though few in number, are likely the most amazing locals players have ever stumbled through and judging by early next-gen rpg offerings they’re not getting beat anytime soon. Besides just being large in scope and draw distance, what makes the areas stick out so much is the “living factor”. Or basically what the game does to make it feel like you’re really there. One way it does this is by filling cities to the brim with NPCs who not only stand or sit around, but have all sorts of animations that make them seem like they really exist. For example, one time I walked over to a pair of NPCs who were playing some type of chess-like board game. Watching them sit and move pieces for a few seconds I suddenly saw one of the two get up, yell something to the other player and walk away shaking his head. What was their story? What happened? That’s the stuff that you’ll have to use your imagination for. But those little touches are just makes everyone and everything seem so real. Further enhancing this is how these little animation pieces never feels random, but instead intelligently placed. Walking into a skill shop I one time noticed that the second floor had been chained off and a moogle was in front of the chains telling me to please not go beyond the chain. Peeking my camera over the chain I then saw 5-10 moogle workers walking around in the back picking up books off the shelves, giving them to each other, performing some kind of magic, and making skills so you can buy them in the shop! It’s little touches like this that just round out the world and make FFXII’s Ivalice the most realistic rpg world ever portrayed in a game, as well as the most immersive one one.

FF VII - Lots of Fun and Game Play
Review created: 10/02/05
8 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I have played FF VII years ago and really enjoyed it.

Likes:

The camera movements during battles.
The freedom in using Materia with characters.
The ability to name your characters. They allow anything. lol
Many, many hours of gameplay.

Dislikes:

Can sometimes be very overwhelming. Lots of combinations with the materia. Sometimes too many.
Sometimes it is tricky finding a door or a way out of the current screen your on.

A very good game overall.

This in my judgement is the best Final Fantasy out of all The Final Fantasy Games. This has a great story line. Top it off with excellent game play. When this is remade for the PS3 I think it will be the top seller for along time. Altho this is for the Playstation the Graphics in my mind are still good for the system. This has a Great replay value and makes a great collectors item.

Final Fantasy VII is one of the ebst RPG Games out there. Not exatcly for its graphics, rather its storyline. The graphics could use some improving, but are still very good considering when this game was made and when it came out. The storyline for this game is excellent, you have friendships being forged, broken, enemies being made into temporary allies only to become enemies once again a moment later. Its full of twists and turns and unexpected events. I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a RPG Game with a good storyline, not necessarily excellent graphics.

final fantasy vii--a game for the ages

FINAL FANTASY VII for the PlayStation is considered by many the best game on the original playstation, and after nearly ten years it is still thought of as one of the top ten games of all time.
and even in this age of flashy graphics and supercharged systems final fantasy vii still stands up and in most cases surpasses the current generation of Role Playing games for home console systems.
the best reason to play this game is the story in most games the story seams to be an afterthought but in this game the story is rich and easily pulls the player in there are great battle scenes and emotional highs and lows.
this is one of those few games that you feel like your really part of the story,it is hard to play this game and not learn to care about the characters,i last played this game at least five years ago and whenever i think of the game i am reminded of a really great experance.
if you are trying to decide if you should buy this game,i would say if you want a experance that will draw you in and let you play through a deep meaningful story you should consider this game a must buy.

Good, but it's not a 50 dollar game!
Review created: 07/24/06

THIS IS A GREATEST HIT TITLE. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? THERE ARE MILLIONS OF COPIES AVAILABLE. DON'T FALL FOR THIS GAME BEING LISTED UNDER "RARE!" or "GET IT WHILE YOU CAN!" ... IT'S SO COMMON THAT YOU CAN STLL FIND THEM SEALED AT WAREHOUSES!!!!

Let me begin by saying this game is a lot of fun, and a welcomed change to the Final Fantasy franchise. Besides what others say, this is NOT the best Final Fantasy. Disagree? The REAL FF fans (those who have played all the FF games are "real" fans in my opinion, not the ones who hang up FFVII posters and watch those crappy movies) all agree that FFIV is the best. It's available for the GBA. BUY IT.

This game used to sell for 10 bucks on eBay, and $14.99 used at GameStop. WHY is it selling for so much now. (I bought the game in 2004 used at GameStop for 14.99, I still have the price tags) Well, A) because Square-Enix is standing to sputter, and they've looked back to their greatest hit, FFVII, and are making bad games and movies about it. (YES, FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus SUCKS. Top Japanese RPGers gave it 6s and 7s!) SO, now everyone THINKS the game is rare and worth 50-100 dollars. People, it's a greatest hits title. It's not rare. It's not hard to find. It's available for PC for crying out loud! DO NOT spend more than 25 bucks on this game. If you do, its a crime to all of us who call ourselves RPG gamers, or Retro Gamers.

"FINAL" Grade: Great game. Get it when the hype dies down. "B+"

Very Possibly the Best Game of All Time

I have several copies of this game in my possession because everytime I see it, I want to buy it again. I lvoe this game that much, and so do a neat eclectic combination of young adult video game fanatics that I call Family and Friends.
This game was not only a mind-rocking play with a magical essence of sucking you into the scenario face first, it kept me up for days, playing in rotational shifts (for leveling up of course) with my step sister. It was the first time we bought a walkthrough jsut so we woulnd't miss anything the game had to offer.
Our eyes burned, Out bladders ached, and yet we played on...why? Because FFVII had become part of our lives. Cloud was guy we knew personally, our favourite drinks were served at Seventh Heaven. We couldn't tell you exactly what mako was but goddamn Shinra for sucking it outta the planet!

This game to me now, at the age of 20, is a peice of powerful nostalgia that takes me back to my adolesence. People talk about how movies can change their lives or teach thme new things. This game was so much more than a game to Us. It was more than a pixelated thrill ride with snowboarding, balloons, and blocky monsters galore. It was an emotional adventure that became our own. Final Fantasy VII can do for you what nothing in live can do for you. You can go on emotional rollar coaster adventure, with sword on back and friends in tow. This game to us was not a simulation of some script some japnese guy wrote and thought people would like. It was a work of utter art that made us cry, made us angry, made us break four different controllers, starve ourselves, forget to pee, suffer reality dissociation after playing for nine hours and definately...one HELLUVA GOOD GODDAMN TIME.

Best Game. Ever.

ok, a lot of people who love this game are going to be pissed off. i was searching through my old games and found FFVII and realized i never beat it. I heard a lot about it and wanted to try it out. I beat this 3 disc game in 32 hours even getting all the ultimate weapons. i honestly thought it flat out sucked.... it was short, easy, and not a game that really hooked me in. I thought the story was a little difficult to understand (supposedly its strong point). Everyone was ranting and raving about how awesome Sephiroth is when i kicked his ass in like 15 hits at level 62!!! Seriously i didnt even think it was the end of the game!! I dont know if i was expecting too much out of it or what but i really didnt like it.....i know fans are gonna be pissed when they read this :( (OH YEA PERSONALLY FFX CRAPS ALL OVER THIS GAME, ITS THE BEST ONE!)

I really didnt find that much wrong with this game. the frequent battles on the main screen but that was about it. but that is with every final fantasy game that you play..

I really like this game because its a very addicting game. the graphics are amazing! The story line is great. The characters are unique to say the least. The map is very big so you have alot of areas to explore. The bosses arent really easy but they arent insanely hard either. I really love the music in this game, its one of the best parts of the game. pick up the soundtrack if you can.

This game in my opinion is a must have. this game has gotten really cheap now so you should be able to pick it up for little to nothing. maybe 15 bucks or so, but if you do pick it up it will not be something you will regret. there is so much to do in this game, and there are so many areas to explore, you will find that time is going right on by and you will have found yourself playing this game for hours.

  FINAL FANTASY 7 QUICK REVIEW

A timeless classic RPG. One of the best original Final Fantasy games out there to date. Might be a little outdated with the PS3 and all, but definitely a must play if you are an avid RPG fan or Final Fantasy fan. I still remembered when I played this game, and the storyline, and plot, is everything a Final Fantasy gamer expects in this work of art.

  Classic, excellent game.

I love this game, and from the general trends that have existed for the last 10 years, I'd say that most of the American (as well as parts of the global) population have agreed.
The game has an intense, rich story line that reads in some parts like an extremely well written novel, and in other parts, remains simply a game--this ability to vary in levels helps more than hurts. With too much straight story line, it would be too much like a movie, but FF7 leaves enough in the hands of the player to remind us it is a game.
The characters are deeper than they appear on first glance, although some do present obvious stereotypes of various types--Barret's language and Tifa's clothing perhaps the most obvious of these. However, their interaction and the stories behind their characteristics later make these stereotypes forgivable as one realizes how awesome they are.
The only fault in this game is the graphics. Unfortunately, for most of the game, they suck. Horribly. However, during fights and cut scenes, the graphics improve ten-fold. These make the other, crappy graphics during other parts of the game well worth the wait, along with the storyline which is occurring despite the bad graphics.
The soundtrack in the game is AMAZING. The themes will stick in your head and you'll sing them in your sleep.
This game, overall, is not for the impatient, nor the fan of the straight shooter/mass murder games. It is much too complex for the devoted fan of Space Invaders or other simple, one goal games. However, even these fans should cast aside their usual preferences and give this one a try. This is one of the best games ever.

What happened with this game? I know a lot of people say it is the birth of the modern console RPG, but it's popularity (and price) skyrocketed once the movie came out. It's now almost impossible to find; and when you do, it's from someone selling it one disc at a time for $50 each. So when I was able to buy it for $40 (a complete game and scratch free, I might add) I had to jump on it. I know it's a good game, but this is one of those times that an item's value went up solely because a few people decided it would, and everyone followed in suit.

  A Must Have Title
Review created: 02/17/08
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Final Fantasy 7 is the Final Fantasy that caused a generation to mourn the death of a fictional, yet beloved character, never done in an FF title before or since. FF7 became the game to which all future titles in the series will be compared to. Due to Final Fantasy 7's incredible popularity, it spawned multiple spin-off games and even a full-length film.

The game itself is very well put together and has amazing music! Final Fantasy 7 was the first FF game to be put on Playstation (PSX) and was therefore the first to have three dimensional graphics! Bringing the ability to raise and breed Chocobos in this game added a lot of extra side-quests as well! You will not be disappointed with this title.

This game is not just a classic... It's legendary now.

  Final Fantasy VII: The Beginning

Final Fantasy VII

The Best RPG of all time. This is the square role playing game ever. FFVII is the game that gotten so many non roling players to play.

Final Fantasy is a turn base RPG and the battle do not take place in real time as some of the newer RPG's today. FFVII is hands down best in the series. Cloud Strife along with sweet Aries and Tifa and friend must collect materia which are small orbs objects that contain great power to face of against Jenova and Sephiroth in a battle to save Migar.

By today standards this game is still consider superior to many other game despised dated polygon graphics. However, the superior story telling and character development seem to win over all against other RPGs to this date While the graphics are date, this is this one of the first and the best RPG games released for Play Station. Some of the best feature and graphics isn't Tifa breast alone. The render of the world of Miger back ground and landscapes are amazing The summoning are simply amazing along with the orchestra music. The sound track was compose by Nobuo Uematsu and is some of the best music ever created for a game. What is great about the Final Fantasy Saga is that each one is completely different and takes place sever hundred years part. Many of the fans are still stuck on seven and are in love with the characters. That is how special the game is.
It is so much to do in the game along with the mini games and side quest, you can basically go any were if you have the right vehicle and experience points. Final Fantasy takes you to another world literally where you will meet new friends and foes along the way.
One of the most impress thing in the story is the mystical land that you are in and it is not full of magical fairies. Politics, action, emotion, this games seem to have it all along with relations ships and love interest along with touches of humor.

The recent release of the Final Fantasy VII Advent Children seem to shine new light on to the game along with a few spin off games. Final Fantasy is full of feeling and heart. A game that should not be missed. This game is a complete five stars.

Forget any of the reviews that say this game is bad or if they have not completed it for they have no idea what they are talking about. Best game ever. FFVII is still one of the best games today. To play it is to live it.

This is a great game. The storyline is dumb, and has too many twists. However, the gameplay is excellent. The combat is a lot of fun. The game uses materia (little jewel-like things you put in slots in your weapon and armor) for your magic abilities and some combat-type abilities as well. The materia system is very original, and not difficult to grasp at all. This was the first game in the Final Fantasy series that I played, and several years later, it's still one of my all-time favorite games!

  Best Game Ever Made!!!!!
Review created: 01/03/09
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The best game to come out on playstation and possibly for any console. Long recognized as role-playing games par excellence, the Final Fantasy series gets a technological makeover in this installment (and series debut on the PlayStation). Shedding the two-dimensional graphics and limited sound capabilities of its predecessors, Final Fantasy VII features lush 3-D graphics, beautifully animated "movie" sequences, and soundtrack-quality music. Coupled with the game's intricate storyline, endearing characters, and immense yet highly imaginative world, these new advancements make for a quite an engrossing experience.
The story of Final Fantasy VII centers around a solider named Cloud Strife, who joins forces with Avalanche, a group of resistance fighters, to take down an evil mega-corporation known as Shinra. (The fate of the world hangs in the balance, of course.) Truly epic in scope, this four-disc game requires a considerable amount of time to complete and every minute that goes by is worth it. It's a must have for anyone that likes video games.

This game truly is the best game I have ever played, both for its time and today as well. You can always elive the excitement, even 11 years later.

The story and characters are simply marvelous, highly detailed in personality, though the graphics mught bug you sometime becuase again, the game is over 10 years old.

If you can live with the older graphics, you will be able to truly enjoy this classic masterpiece, again and again.........and again and again.

...... and again
