A brilliant update of a classic strategy title!
Review created: 10/19/07

I've been a gamer since way back when Pong was new, and I think I've played every major system (and owned too many of them!) When this was first released in '97, I bought it simply because it was a Final Fantasy game. Having played Tactics Ogre, I liked the genre. And I loved the idea of a strategy based FF title. I ended up addicted to this game. I put in well over 200 hours on replays alone! So when it was released for the PSP, I just about wet my pants. Especially on seeing the cutscenes. The story is deeper, more involved, and the cutscenes just add that touch the original lacked. The addition of Luso and Balthier are fantastic. It seems the translation has really been punched up too - the dialog is now more fitting. In the original, the speech of the characters seemed too modern for the time they were supposed to be in. Now they "talk" like they should. Some of the battles are just as tough as I remember them. The music is just as grand as ever, and you'll need to plug in the headphones or the speakers to really get the full experience of it. There are minor frustrations, though. The games slows a bit when a lot of characters are on-screen or when there is a special effect, like a summoning spell. It's difficult in spots to know which abilities you'll need to defeat certain bosses. Some of the rescue and protect missions are a little too hard, and you can't even get the secret characters unless you keep one certain member alive! BUT - having said all that, it is a wonderful update of what I consider a classic game. Absolutely as must have not only for FF fans, but for tactical fans, and just about anyone else.

  Best Remake EVER!
Review created: 02/17/08
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of The Lions for PSP is a remake of Final Fantasy Tactics for Playstation (PSX). Unlike all other Final Fantasy games, FF Tactics is a tactical turn-based battling game where you move your characters around the battlefield like a chessboard. There was no voice acting and no cinematics except for the opening movie in the original PSX FF Tactics, but the PSP version has added awesome movie sequences with voices! The music in this game is decent but not as great as other titles in the series.

The job system to learn new abilities in the best put together job system I have ever encountered. With over 20 unlockable job classes, the customization opportunities are endless. The PSP version has added 2 new job classes and 2 new characters including Balthier from Final Fantasy 12!

Most definitely worth buying, especially with the ad hoc ability to battle with, or against friends!

FFT Is one of the best games ever! REMAKE IS GREAT!

I just started playing this but I have been a huge and and lover of FFT for Playstation. From what I have already seen FFT for PSP is amazing! The new artwork and cut scenes look really cool. It is basically the same ol tactics we know and love but it has been redone with less glitches (Dont we remeber those from the original) and sharper images. I really love this game because its different from the regular RPGs. Its like chess in my head. The characters are great, the costumes are beautiful, I love Chocobos...etc! LOL. This is a great game. Seriously if you love playing the original buy this one and relive the experience!

  Best Final Fantasy Ever?

This is without doubt the greatest tactical RPG of all time. The level of customazation of characters, the sheer number of weapons and armor, the number of jobs... this game set the bar for the genre! There have been many games after it that have tried to reach that bar, none have succeed. If you love tactical RPGs, as I do, and have never played this game buy immediately! Even if you have played it on PSone it is well worth playing again! I played it on psonne several times and this version is even better! With the new animated cut scenes and a few new jobs! One of the greatest games ever made!!

  Final Fantasy Tactics - Remade
Review created: 03/17/08

This game is a remake of the '97 hit, Final Fantasy Tactics. It includes a rehashed dialogue, making it easier to understand than what the original was. Though, I hadn't a problem to begin with. Anyway, this game offers new dialogue, new animated cut scene movies in place of certain story events, new secret characters and 2 new jobs!

This title only improves upon the original!

Only one major drawback. The PSP cannot process info as fast as the PS did. This make War of the Lions a bit slower when larger spells and abilities are cast. However, it doesn't alter the game in anyway.

I give this game a 5 of 5 and recommend it to any RPG or RTS lover.

The Classic Tactic Game, Transitioned to New Heights
Review created: 11/24/07
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Originally from Playstation 1, this game was highly-acclaimed and hailed as an instant classic! The PSP version shows much brilliance like the first, yet a few flaws hinders it to become the ultimate PSP tactic game; The sound was not as crystal as its predecessor. For instance, some of the special attack effects was greatly reduced for the sake of compression. The visuals were a bit blurry, which was similar to Valkyrie Profile for PSP; Their PS1 versions were much clearer in sounds and visuals. Also, the game tends to lag when chanting great spells and initiating a special attack. At times, I begin to ponder that this game is made for the new and slim PSP version than the old PSP system... but do not be disheartened, for the game is decent enough as it is to cloud the flaws it has. Regardless, it is a great tactical RPG game for the PSP.

Great Remake of a Great Game

First of all, this product is discontinued, so I was glad to find it for a reasonable price here on eBay. This game was a deemed a classic the moment it graced the PS1, and now it's returned, with cell-shaded CGI movies, bonus story and battle content, and from what I find, it's MUCH harder. If you're a lover of Final Fantasy, tactics-style games, or both, definitely do all you can to pick up this great RPG.

Im a huge Final Fantasy finatic, and when I heard about the re-release of this game, I had to jump on it. I recommend it to anyone who loves stragedy/RPG games. Difficulty level is actually up there. The story is perfect and characters are completely customizable.

FFT is most definitely a remake of a classic

There really isn't anything to dislike about this game. I guess, if I wasn't familiar to RPG Elements, I would have a hard time figuring out the party roster and stuff like that in the game. But anyone that loves Strategy RPGs will love this game. There is like a million different weapons, classes, and skills you can customize your party with. This is a remake from the original Playstation 1 version, with new features and events added on. It has the formula for a classic written all over it. So if you like games like Disgaea or Tactics Ogre than you will love this game!!

  Welcome to the Ivalice Alliance...
Review created: 11/22/09

I really am a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series. There is a lot to offer. When I first played FF Tactics (the beginning of the "Ivalice series"... a series in a series)I had to say I was disappointed and yet was still found entertained. FFT's dialogue was sloppy and it was clear that little was done to correct it. The battle system had a steep learning curve and little of the FF elements I grew to love were present. FF: War of the Lions has cleaner dialogue. The political intrigue is quite something. But the learning curve is still rather steep if you're not fimiliar with FFT and FFT-Advanced. The characters seem to blend in with one another and it's at time difficult to distinguish them; but the menu offers the chance to review important cutscenes. Sadly, one of the most important FF elements I always look forward to is the music, and it isn't really replicated in FF:WoL at all.

Story: 8/10
Gameplay: 7.5/10
Music: 6.5/10
Learning curve: approx. 1-2 hours
Overall: 7.5/10

This is the best remake I ever play. The first FFT for PSone was too good but let things unsolved and not so clear. Now with this new updated version, is just one of the best FF games ever. Is easy to understand the basics and you can play more than 300 hours without feeling that is the same. I love this game because it makes you remember the old one plus the new upgrades are by far, the best value this game has.

Best: History, job changes, new jobs and side story. Awesome movies with voices include, didn't expected that.

Not so good: new jobs need equipment only acquire in multiplayer mode

Bad: So far, nothing, only that if you want a nice Onion Knight, you must expend too much time in game.

  Well ...
Review created: 09/13/09

I grew up on the PS1 version of FFT (Final Fantasy Tactics), and ... what can I say. The videos are good, the game play is good. but going from one version to another, with so many translation changes, and really slow attack/magic animations ... not worth it in my case, luckily I only paid $13 for it.

I loved it on the PS1 and it is made even better on the PSP. Tactical RPG goodness on the go, with 2 new classes to boot. Even though the Onion Knight isn't anything special, the Dark Knight is a great job addition and tons of fun. If you loved the first FFT or have any interest in strategy RPGs you will love this game!

nothing else to buy...No commitments!!!

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster
online, Stamp.com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would

same day). Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you.
After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer 8-13 people
(depending on the FREE prize you choose) to do the same under your link

I bought this item because it was brand new with a good shipping cost and wasn't expensive. I was glad to see that the item was in fact sealed when I received it and I was really surprised to receive the item in a really short time because I had picked the low shipping fee. Everything was perfect. As for 1busyman, they kept communications between us on a regular basis. As for the game itself, it's really great. It was already a great game on the playstation back in 1998 but now it's nice to play it on my psp with a couple more stuff and cutscenes to make the story even greater. Good choice for anyone familiar with strategy games. A classic !
