Reviewed for Big Boss Games by: T.R.C.

Final Fantasy I:

You start out by selecting your four heroes. You can select from six different classes. The heroes will change after you complete a side quest that is about a third of the way through the game.

Warrior = Knight
Thief = Ninja
Monk = Black Belt
White Mage = White Wizard
Black Mage = Black Wizard
Red Mage = Red Wizard

My team consisted of a Warrior, Monk, Black Mage and a White Mage. This group is the most balanced between strength and magic. You will have to buy your spells. So save your money!

Story 6/10 - The story was re-written with much more detail than the original Nintendo version.

Music 7/10 - You will find yourself humming along to the background music.

Graphics 6/10 - The graphics were updated from the original Nintendo days. Looks more like an SNES game.

Battle System 5/10 - Your typical turn based battle system with updated spell graphics.

Game play 6/10 - This game took me 25 hours to complete.

Special Feature - In the original NES Final Fantasy you had to walk everywhere you went. In this wonderfully remade version of Final Fantasy they added the run button. Hold it down and you can run. This cuts down on travel time in towns and dungeons.

Overall 7/10 - For Final Fantasy I, all the updates to this game have truly made a great game into a classic.

Final Fantasy II:

Your party will consist of four people. Three of them will stay with you throughout the game, but the forth member will change throughout the game.

You start with Firion, Maria, and Guy.

The forth wheels are:
Leon - A Dark Knight
Minwu - A White Wizard
Josef - A Monk
Gordon - A Prince
Ricard - A Dragoon
Leila - A Pirate Captain

You will have complete control over how you mold your team. So, take some time to think how you want them to grow. "E.g. to be a wizard or a sword fighter?" You will be fighting a lot in this game, so take some time to attack your own team with your spells and weapons. This will help your team members to grow strong and powerful. You don't gain experience points in this game, you grow by casting spells, fighting, and taking damage.

Story 8/10 - This game has betrayal, revenge and redemption. This game was well written and a delight to read. So far, this is my third favorite Final Fantasy story.

Music 6/10 - I enjoyed the midi style of music that was used in this game.

Game play 6/10 - This game took me 22 hours to complete the main quest.

Graphics 6/10 - Were like some of the best graphics seen on the SNES. Eye candy is out there for you to find. The spells also gain levels by using them over and over, by doing so the animations also become flashier every 2 to 3 levels.

Battle system 5/10 - Typical turn based attack system. Note: Building your team is slow and painful, but well worth the effort.

Special Mention: After you complete Final Fantasy II watch the credits till they end and the game will ask you to save. Save your game and you will return to the main Final Fantasy II start screen with 3 options, "Congrats!" You just unlocked the "Soul of Rebirth" mini quest!

This Soul of Rebirth side quest is tough, it also added 10 hours of game play and a great side story to Final Fantasy II.

Overall Time: 32+ hours to finish this game and 57+ hours to finish Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls is a great length for a GBA game.

I truly liked this game. It was a challenge to complete and that is its charm.

I had never played Final Fantasy until a couple of years ago and I am saddened that I had missed out on it until then! I owned a Super Nintendo when I was little but always played the Mario games and never tried these. I highly recommend you play it and own it but I will warn you it's very addicting!

The way that the game is set up is very elementary. It should be focused for kids. I would say that it's a disgrace to the Final Fantasy line of games, however, It is entertaining. It was not what I was expecting to suffices.

I bought Final Fantasy I & II for the Gameboy Advance System for my friend's son, who had his stolen. I thought the price was excellent, and my friend's son loves the game, it is his favorite. It was easy to find, and I would recommend it to anyone who has teenage kids.

I bought it because I just wanted a new game and ended up getting really attached to it. It is very addictive and there is always something new to discover on it. I am currently playing the first one on the cartridge, but I have already played some on the second and they both are great and will be deciding to buy the newest one.

A classic game restored to the gba with Class!!
Review created: 07/15/09

Truly, this is the very core of Final Fantasy restored and revitalized! If you are a fan of the final fantasy series then you will love every moment of your trek through these two fantastic games!
The graphics will remind you of the american version of Final Fantasy III for the SNES. We could only wish that they would've remade this for the DS as well as the PSP, but this game will fulfill even the most ardent rpger's need to enjoy the originals!

Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls

I'm a collector of the final fantasy series, both games and merchandise, this is a must have for any collector of the series. It allows you to replay the "classics" without having to locate and/or destroy a potentially valuable collectors item.(a.k.a. FF1 for the NES) The game itself is just a remake of the older games, but as with any series, its more for the older fans, or those who have recently entered into the Final Fantasy world, but would like to play its history and the true beginning.

It's a great game, whether you played the NES version or not. It's not exactly the same as the origional, but most of the changes are for the best. (Sorry, I preferred "Orbs" to "Chrystals".) It was a lot of fun, with several extra things to do not available in the NES. I would definately recommend this game.

  Great classic game!
Review created: 04/30/09
by:

I would have given the game a five star rating. It is much like the original except for the improved sound and graphics. If you are a fan of the old school turned based rpg this game is great for you. My main dissapointment with the game is that it has been made so much easier than the original. This is a personal opinion and may not apply to you. The original was painfully slow and took a long time to grind out xp and gold, so just by finishing the game was quite the accomplishment. If you didnt have the chance to play it on nes then you should check this game out.

  Absolutely classic RPG gaming
Review created: 03/30/09
by:

If one could simply do away with the plot, which rivals most of Hideo Kojima's titles in terms of worthlessness, this would probably be my favorite RPG of all time. I love the turn based combat -- there's lots to see and do in this one. I finished the first game in about 25 hours, within the space of a week. I absolutely could not put this game down. RPG fans -- this one's not to be missed.

This was a perfect idea to begin with, splicing two great past time games together it came out as perfect as it should have been, unlike all of the new revamped games these are the two original titles put together not remastered so its timeless effects are still apperent, i give it two thumbs up.

Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls
Review created: 06/04/08
by:

I remember first getting a copy of this game on my NES back in 1991 (and still own to this day) but was never happy with the emulator ports for my PC.

Low and behold I learn that the GBA has released a port of the first two FF games (I had never had a chance to play the 2nd on an actual console). Though I still love my old school sprites from the NES, the upgrade is a great addition to my video game collection. In fact, it was the whole reason I bought my Nintendo DS.

The upgraded graphics and magic point system are great additions to this classic RPG (that really put RPG's on the map, in my opinion). And the inclusion of the new dungeon levels is great for old gamers to have something new to discover.

So if you're an old fan of the series, or if you've never played a Final Fantasy game before then this is definitely a title to pick up.

  Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls
Review created: 05/20/08
by:

I grew up with Final Fantasy on the NES, and, needless to say, I was thrilled when I found out that the game had been rereleased, improved, on the Game Boy Advance. It's an easy enough game to pick up, with a simplistic yet challenging turn-based strategy style--which heavily influenced generations of RPGs to come.

The additions, renovations, and overall updates of this great classic make it a necessary staple for any gamer's GBA collection--the introduction of the Soul of Chaos dungeons in FF1 and the Soul of Rebirth post-story in FF2 add a whole new realm of challenge and adventure, thoroughly enriching the gameplay and overall experience.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls to any gamer, to both fans of the series and those yet to be introduced to the wonderful realm of the Final Fantasy franchise.

Classic RPG action! A must have.
Review created: 08/07/07

any RPG fan, dare i say, every gamer owes it to themselves to experience the origins of one of the most revered series in the history of gaming.
there have been a number of releases of the first two Final Fantasy games over the years, but the GBA offering Dawn of Souls is easily the best.
these games helped shape the RPG as we know it today. and being able to experience both classics on one cartridge is a definite plus.

Final Fantasy delivers a classic, no frills RPG experience with plenty of fun and challenging battles, a memorable soundtrack, and plenty of areas to explore.
Final Fantasy II is a level grinder's dream, offering an interesting level-system that will raise your stats based on your actions in battle. this, coupled with memorable characters and a gripping story make it one of the key games in the series.

Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls should have a place at the top of every RPG fan's collection.
