Clean in more ways than one!

Years ago, I had a Filter Queen vacuum which I found to be extremely good but I had to leave it behind due to a move. Really missed that unit for what it did and i decided to check Ebay for a replacment. Glad I did.
These vacuums have excellent suction and air flow allowing quicker cleaning of the home. And, with their much above average filtering, they clean both the dirt from your home and the air in the home. I remember being truly shocked at what I would find in the dirt cannister when I emptied and the pleasant smell when using the machine. No weird smell comes from the vacuum when you are using it and you do notice a difference in the air quality with frequent use.
They are very quiet in operation, much more so in the low speed mode. Possibly, this is the quietest vacuum I've ever experienced. The downside is that the vacuum is so quiet it makes the powerhead seem very noisy. The powerhead is probably no noisier than any other but, with the quietness of the main unit, it just seems to be noisier than expected.
I'm not fond of the unusual way the attachments fit but they do stay firmly in place while in use. And, because of the unusual fit, aftermarket accessories not made specifically for Filter Queen will not fit without an adaptor (usually available at any vacuum store). But these attachments are very well made and last indefinately. As will the powerhead with only minor maintenance. I'd recommend all owners check the powerhead at least every six months for buildup inside and change the belt at least yearly. Not hard to do and makes for a longer lasting unit. I would like to try out the newer style powerhead and hose, tho. It looks like it would be easier to use.
The filtering system in a Filter Queen is outstanding! No bags, foam filters or pleated filters. Just large cellulose cones which fit over the bottom of the main motor unit. Very effective - in fact, I've read in several places where this cone filter exceeds HEPA! Yes, the cones can be difficult to find locally - Ebay to the rescue! - but work so well the difficulty is minor. And, they are not expensive. Just remember to replace the small grey inside filter every six changes to keep the excellent filtering quality.
Emptying the dirt cannister is very little different than emptying that of a modern bagless vacuum. Only larger and capable of holding much more. I remove the motor top and hose, take the cannister out to the garbage can, remove the filter cone and dump. I've been told by many old hands that a garbage bag can be placed over the top of the cannister to aid in dumping but it's never been a problem to me. What fascinates me is that this is a cyclonic bagless design - essentially similar to modern syles - but it came out in 1928 and still is better than most new styles.
Overall, they are a great vacuum, terribly overpriced when new (but, worth it) so I recommend Ebay. They are built to last with tried and true engineering and will be very economical to use over the years. My vacuum shop tells me that they are very easy to work on should work be needed also.
