  Great Album!

I got into the Counting Crows back in the mid 90's. Recently I wanted to relive some of the music from my earlier days and therefore wanted to revisit the Counting Crows. I thought I would have to purchase the original albums to get all of the songs I remember, but then I came across this album! It has all of the popular Counting Crows songs that I remember and love! This is a must buy for any Counting Crows fan!

This is a cd that is good to just lay back and chill while listening to it. If it was version that included Accidentally In Love, it would have rated excellent.

This CD has every great song The Crows made, I have 2 other cd's by them and this one is the best. After I saw them in concert I really had a new found appreciation for the music and lyrics. Great CD , Great choice of songs and superior mastering.

I bought this CD because I'm a huge Counting Crows fan and because I could find it on Ebay at an unbelievable price! This is an awesome CD with some songs you can't find on other albums and just an overall great selection of some of their best stuff.

-=Mr. Jones and Mrs. Potter on the back porch counting crows=-

Pros:
An emotional gauntlet.

Cons:
Missing a few songs like "Daylight Fading"

This is so weird, 'cause it wasn't until right around ten years ago today that I started to show any interest at all in modern music of any genre. Now I see all these artists who first emerged around that time putting out Greatest Hits/Best Of compilations (this being a Best Of) and it's like wow, I've actually been following music long enough to see an artist grow from the first big hit to the first big compilation. Of course, these days, it isn't saying much, considering you have artists like The Gin Blossoms, Silverchair and Fastball (yeah, Fastball) putting out Greatest Hits collections. .

I Said That I Would Pay For Them, If I Could Come Back To You

Pros:
all the hits, some good album tracks, and Einstein rules

Cons:
too many ballads, could have had better sequencing, no Daylight Fading

It's hard to believe it's already been a decade or more since the Northwest Rock Movement was the biggest thing on earth, and music by bands that actually had something to say other than wanting nothing but a good time or girls to talk dirty to them. As such, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that "best ofs" and "greatest hits" collections are appearing with more frequency for the artists who have actually lasted this long. Though I give Counting Crows credit, as their best of makes a lot of sense, given that it was 10 years ago they broke through with Mr Jones, and so a decade of music seems..

One for sorrow or two for joy?

For me the Counting Crows are one of those once in a lifetime bands that seem able to do no wrong. The first album I heard was their second, Recovering the Satellites, which is widely regarded as their weakest album. I would subscribe to that opinion. But it was one of the most astonishingly accomplished albums that I had heard in a long time back then. If on their weakest outing the Crows can so hook me, then I was bound to fall head over heels in love with the rest of their music. Which means that there is no chance whatsoever that I will be objective about this album. I love every single...

Pros:
goodness

Cons:
badness

I've never met Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz, but I can tell you that he's an intensely fascinating person. That's because Adam Duritz is one of the most genuine singer-songwriters of the past decade or so; Films About Ghosts is the Crows's post-decade retrospective, and like a Counting Crows album, it's long and rambling, but jammed with stunning hooks and imagery. The Crows are best described as either alternative-rock for grown-ups, or classic rock for alt-rockers. Deeply immersed in rock's rootsy past, schooled by Dylan and The Byrds, the Crows weaved the kind of nostalgic, jangly...

Pros:
Mostly great selection of Counting Crows songs.

Cons:
Why is "Big Yellow Taxi" on here instead of "Daylight Fading"?

What can one say about the Counting Crows at this point? That they're a bogus Van Morrison rip-off as Jim Derogatis put it. Or that they should be credited for bringing the sounds of 1972 era Van, Dylan and The Band together with the early REM sound and creating an approach that caught on in the early 1990s. Either way, it is impossible to deny that the Crows have created some pretty good music. Not particularly original to be sure. But at least they steal from quality sources and make it sound more original than obvious imitators such as Oasis. So if one is looking to get into the Counting...
