Movie Description
A visual feast combining ancient mysticism, cyberpunk sensibilities, flamboyant entertainment personalities, and gun-toting alien mercenaries. In the 23rd century, Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis), an ex-special forces agent who now practices as a down-and-out cabbie, finds himself caught in a struggle to defy a prophesied Evil from destroying the Earth when a mysterious woman (Milla Jovovich) falls into the back seat of his cab. Pursued by both the government and a powerful magnate enlisted by the forces of Evil (Gary Oldman), the woman is the key to Earth's salvation, known only as the Fifth Element. This was French auteur Besson's first offering with Hollywood backing. Academy Award Nomination: Best Sound Effects Editing.

I absolutely adored this movie from the first time I saw it. It is an extremely well-drawn story, and a very original way of looking into how our future might develop.

It begins 300 years into the past, at an archeological dig site, where a group of aliens appears, giving the basis for the whole story in saying to the priest watching over the dig that the stones are no longer safe, and take what appears to be a sarcophagus. They say that they will return in 300 years, when Evil returns.

This here certainly puts a spin on the typical action science fiction movie. Though there are the typical elements... plenty of fights, a rough n' tough main character (Bruce Willis), a super-powerful maiden-in-distress (Milla Jovovich), with the comic relief (Chris Tucker), and, of course, the descendant of the priest in the first scene to see that everything in prophecy is carried out correctly (Ian Holm).

Though this may have summarized it a bit too much, there is a fantastical way this movie is put together that makes it great. The music, costumes, fights, scenery and storyline just puts a glitter on this that blows the audience away.

    The Fifth Element

A great sci-fi action flick with an amazing cast and a superb plot.

Bruce Willis stars as Korben Dallas, a burnt out cop who learns that it's up to him to save the world from certain doom.

The action scenes are incredible and Milla Jovovich is awesome. The Fifth Element is as funny as it is action packed mostly due to Chris Tucker.

The Fifth Element is great fun for the whole family, and is a must for all action fans.

    Final Verdict:

    4/5

Rent or Buy?: If you're not a huge sci-fi fan you might want to rent this one before buying it, but it's a solid purchase and even more of a solid rental.
