  FIDO (The Movie)
Review created: 12/07/07

I bought it not because I enjoy zombie movies--I hate them as a general rule-I am a wimp!! But, I liked "Shaun of the Dead"--and this seemed to be a ,ot like this--funny. It was a cute movie, not full of gore and blood and zombilicious action. It is about a boy, and his "leave-it-to Beaverish" lifestyle--except his dad, unlike Ward Cleaver really ignores Timmy. So when his mom finds out the new neighbors are big -wigs at ZomCom, the local zombie recycling plant, she gets a zombie--who Timmy, and his mom form a relationship with. Timmy names him "Fido"--and it has some predictable zombie-gone wrong--things in the movie, and a hilarious scene where "Fido" goes to get mom (Carrie-Anne Moss)--ala Lassie-style-- and it has a cute ending. But what captures you more than the story is the visual 50's syle world re-creation--it is bright and bold and if it weren't for zombies as servents it is a "Pleasantville" world--in color--the cars, the costumes, the values--is very nostalgic. I liked it--it isn't a block buster, but I think it will be a cult classic--and overall has a real message about technolgy and corporate greed, and what a family really is. I would watch it just for the costumes and scenery it is lush and gorgeous- bright-compared to a dark undertone of the story!

It starts slow and never lets up, until the next thing you know you are hooked. A true winner. They pulled it off and you will love Fido. A must see for the whole family.

My husband loves this movie, had to buy it for x-mas.
I must admit it is really a strange but well done funny movie.
If you like "B" monster/zombie films and cool retro 50's stuff you will love it! this will be a cult classic.

This is a 2007 cult comedy sleeper. I stumbled upon it during a late night IFC showing. I immediately went on eBay to find and buy my own copy. After several attempts I have now won THREE copies on eBay to share with family and friends. It's still Rated R so watch who views it, but even the R Rating is only for Zombie Related Violence, I kid you not, it says so right on the back cover. What a HOOT! Enjoy!

If you Shaun of the dead you love fido. Its a 1950"s comedy about a boy and his pet zombie. The movie takes place after the zombie wars of the 1940"s(world war two never happened due to the zombie war)and how society used the zombies as servants.

This movie looks like it might be really stupid. It is not. It is definately not your typical Zombie movie. You fall in love with Fido and you will root for him thru the whole movie! I loved this movie!

I thought this movie was awesome, and so did the rest of my family (ages 46 to 19). No sooner than when the credits began to roll on the rental copy, and I was on Ebay to buy a copy for our home collection. Funny, kooky, and just all around a good flick, I think most people would get a kick out of this movie.

  Fido is Just the Best

This movie basically takes place after the George Romero Classic, "Night of the Living Dead". Zombies have been Domesticated and have become useful. It is such an Absurd idea, that it works for this movie.

Billy Connelly *Head of the Class*, *Open Season*, plays "Fido" a domesticated Zombie who is befriended by a lonely boy, and is like his loyal dog, always at his side. Accidentally kills a neighbor and then a big cover up begins. Leading to a rib hurting funny movie. I Highly recomend this movie to ANY true Romero and Zombie fan!

This movie is not for kids who scare easily. It was extremely funny and enjoyable. The 1950's stereotypes were played out very well around the zombies. Great acting, directing, and writing.

A charming movie with a macabre pretense...

This film comes in the same vein as your Shawn of the Dead, but it's not bloody british. Some nice bits o' gore and drabs of blood, all occuring in your 1950's suburban, All-American, almost beaveresque type of environment. It's got everything from morals and values to Zombies for pets and playthings. It's even got zombie children. How can you go wrong? Well worth the viewing.

This movie is a great addition to any zombie fanatic's collection. It expresses humor so imaginatively and captivates you immediately into the little boys dilemma. I love it! Its kind of hard to find, so Ebay was definitely the place to look.

it is a very hard movie to find because of its low budget production. I couldnt find it cheaper anywhere else so it felt natural. I adore zombie films and that is why I purchased it. Over all it was a great buy.

What can I say except that "Fido" is a mans best friend
Review created: 04/21/09
by:

The entire zombie subgenre has been so over done for so long that I was beginning to worry that there might be no coming back for it. Then, like a good pet who comes when you call him, along comes Fido.

Set in America in the 50's, humanity has survived the zombie apocalypse, which happened much as it did in Romero's "Land of the Dead," and is now living safe inside fenced-in safe zones. There is an invention, a collar of some sort, that is able to quell the zombies' hunger for human flesh. Now they are used as servants, or, in some cases, pets. The plot centers around little Timmy Robinson (K'Sun Ray) and his pet zombie Fido (Billy Connolly). As the film proceeds, Timmy grows attached to his zombie like a boy to Lassie, and when Fido gets in trouble, Timmy's loyalty causes conflicts in the neighborhood and the movie begins.

As ridiculous as this movie may seem I thought it was pretty decent. The scenery and costumes are perfect and an ensemble of highly talented actors seems to effortlessly draw you into this madcap world, but one in particular is worth noting. Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), gives an extraordinarily believable performance as Helen Robinson, Timmy's wholesome, picture-perfect mom, with just a dash of modern day "get it yourself, Bob" attitude.

It sometimes feels like he spent his entire budget on some vintage autos and an unnecessary helicopter shot. The zombie makeup looks terrible, which is always distracting. And the zombie actors are generally awful, probably on account of Currie's direction. They all seem too expressive in their faces and eyes. There are a lot of interesting aspects of this post-apocalyptic society, but the world and its rules are never adequately explained. To boot, it's difficult to understand some of the back stories, especially that of the father (played by Dylan Baker). I'd still give a recommendation, just because the idea is so fantastic. And it's an amusing picture, even if it disappoints.....somewhat.

I love this movie because of the bizaar story of a pet zombie. It always cheers me up. Look beyond that zombies are the living dead and out to eat your brains.
