This book is the "Bible" for ferret owners. It should be mandatory to buy it, before anyone gets their first ferret. They will use this book from the very first ferret, and will still be using it when they are pros. It explains all the pros and cons of ferret ownership and the responsibility that comes with it. It will start you out at the very beginning, and explain everything you want to know about ferrets. Food, caging, playtime, diseases and disorders, potty training, how to correct certain behaviors and even tells you about grieving. How to pick a vet, shots they need, how often, a first aid checklist, medical issues, breeding and ferret resources. I can't say enough about this book. If everyone read this book first, there would be a lot less ferrets in shelters. Please buy this book before you buy or adopt your ferret. You'll never regret it.

I THINK ALL THE "FOR DUMMIES" BOOKS ARE PRETTY WELL DONE. THEY USE HUMOR TO HOLD YOUR ATTENTION. THIS BOOK IS ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR BEGINNERS I THINK. I'VE BEEN DOING THIS AWHILE BUT I ALSO READ SOME TIPS AND IDEAS I HADN'T THOUGHT OF OR HAD THOUGHT OF IN A DIFFERENT WAY. I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR GOOD IDEAS. THIS BOOK HAS SOME.

I decided to buy this book after the death of my first ferret due to a bowel obstruction. I felt so bad about her death that I wanted to find out how I could prevent such things from happening in the future.

This was a very helpful book. I have already recommended it to someone else who also ordered the book from an ebayer.

  THEE BEST book on ferrets!

I have bought many of these books to share with people who love ferrets as dearly as I do! There's no other publication out there that complies as much info in ONE binding as does this! Kim Schilling is the best! You want to know anything about ferretsd...THIS is the book to read. Very easy to read. The joy of ferrets, the sadness when one travels the rainbow bridge and the health issues, ways to play with them, help in bathing and grooming and cage setup...it's ALL here!

This book is an excellant resource for new and experienced ferret owners! I have had ferrets before but learned many new things while skimmjing this book. I would suggest that they use spell check next time as there were many typos in this book.

Good book for beginner ferret owners
Review created: 01/01/09

The book ( after it tries to talk reader out of having a ferret as a pet) has very useful information for net ferret parents. I like to get this book, when at a reasonable price, to give out when I sell baby ferrets to first time ferret partnst. Covers basics well, and, if they read it before buying a little one, and knwo what they are getting into, and can do what it says, they end up happy owners. Suggested for anyoen thinking about a ferret ~ better before you buy a ferret, but still very helpful afterwords.

FANTASTIC Book for new and experienced ferret owners!
Review created: 12/28/08

We have owned a ferret for several years, and I thought I knew a great deal about them. After adopting a pair of abused rescue ferrets, I bought this book for information on socializing them. This book provided that info and much, much more! It starts out explaining what to consider before buying a ferret, continues on into house-proofing your home for their safety, with great info and pictures on ferret body language. There's even an excellent chapter on illnesses and their symptoms, which could save your little "carpet shark's" life! I now feel much more confident as a ferret owner. This is a fun-to-read, easy to understand book, and the humor is wonderful! A must-have for every ferret owner, veterinarian or rescue shelter.

  Fantastically Funny

This book is a must have for anyone who is thinking about or already owns a 'carpet shark.' It covers a wide range of topics ranging from cage set-up, basic health and care and the often times taboo subject on when to say goodbye. Although they have a newer edition, this book still has a lot of useful information but I wouldn't suggest buying it new. Ferrets for Dummies 2007 has some updated information on things such as diet as well as a full anatomical chart.

If You Have Ferrets, You Must Have This Book!
Review created: 12/27/07
by:

If you ever have a question about your 'carpet shark', more than likely, you'll find the answer in this book. It's a wonderful source of reference for those who are thinking about adding a ferret to the family, to those who already have the pleasure of sharing their home with a 'furkid'.

Just about every subject concerning ferret care and maintenance is in here. There are also many useful tips and reminders included, from ferret-proofing your house, feeding and housing them, to the proper way of introducing new members to your ferret family. Face it, ferrets are like potato chips, you can't have just one! (We have six!)

I'm happy to recommend this must have book to everyone who wants to find answers to their ferret questions in plain English, not a bunch of 'techno-speak'.

Best ferret book for new or current ferret owners.
Review created: 05/31/07

This is the best ferret book I have ever read. It covers every aspect of ferret care, from history and health to enrichment and diets. Not only is it comprehensive, it is a fun and easy read. The author has a great sense of humor, and her tone makes it seem as if you were discussing ferrets with her, not lecturing you. For anyone interested in ferrets, this is a great starter book. And for experienced ferret owners, this is a great refresher with a ton of new ideas. The book also includes a listing of other ferret resources, including a brief list of shelters. I recommend this book to every person interested in ferrets.

  ferrets for dummies
Review created: 05/05/07

I decided to buy the book because my husband bought me a baby ferret. She is very special in our family and I wanted the best resource to learn about her. The "for dummies" books are great. I learned she can actually eat tuna as part of her diet and she loves it. So thank you for doing business with me.

The primary book was gently used, the extra 2 were a nice addition, just a little out-dated. Definately a great buy especially since we needed it for our Ferrets!! Shipping was very reasonable.
