Fear Nothing

Supernatural thrill writer Dean R. Koontz returns with a winner. Good detail, great storyline. Great characterization. Tense, end-of-the-world story without going over the top. More of a 'lets get on with our lives as the world as we know it ends around us.'
Christopher Snow is 28 years old and has XP, a rare skin condition that does not tolerate any bright light. He lives by candlelight and travels his small town by bicycle at night. His companion on his nightly ramble is Orson, his black lab, given to him by his mother. His parents, teachers at a nearby college, have both recently died and he had just learned that they were probably murdered, instead of a car crash and cancer as their causes of death as he was led to believe. As he trys to dig into the details surrounding their deaths, he runs up against a corrupt police department and military scientists. And secrets. Always secrets. People he's known all his life aren't what they seem. His only allys are his boyhood friend, Bobby Halloway and his girlfriend, Sasha Goodall and an old football player and now animal communicator, Roosevelt Frost. And Orson.
I definitely recommend this book and it's sequel, Seize the Night. Dean Koontz has stated that these are some of his favorite characters and that he will definitely be revisiting this world. It's a little formulaic, as are most of Koontz's books, but they work and I can't wait for the next installment.
