Released in 1989, Faxanadu was one of the first RPG games for the NES, to offer a wealth of gameplay depth. Being able to choose your own path, and explore at your own pace was ahead of its time and new to the gaming world. Many people did not grasp the game with enthusiasm because it actually took time to beat and had to think about where to go and how to get there. Most people wanted to finish a level and come back later to finish it, but Faxanadu wasn't in that category. Yes you could save your progress through a Mantra (Password) and come back but you could save at any town and not just after you completed an objective.
With over 15 hours of game time to complete, it was also one of the longest games of its time, adding to the dollar value that you paid for it, as well as an awesome replay value, because you always miss something your first time thru. This game is great and offers a level of gameplay depth that was unheard of in its time.
