PLOT: AMERICAN HIDING OUT IN THE PACIFIC IS BLACKMAILED INTO BEING A "SPOTTER" OF JAPANESE PLANES~ TO HELP OUT THE WAR EFFORT~ (WORLD WAR 2)

Walter Eckland aka Cary Grant in his last movie as a boozy man blackmailed by the Brits into become a "spotter" in New Guinea during WW2. The deal is simple...they hid his booze in order to get it he has to spot a plane~ sounds simple until a French School Teacher ( Leslie Caron)and her 7 Students all little girls end up his very UNWelcome and UNINVITED "GUESTS"~ USING the code names he becomes the "Filthy Beast" and she is "Goody 2 Shoes" which describes them perfectly~ with the Japanese surround them the battle of the sexes was never so funny~ they steal his clothes and take everything the poor man has because he will not share~ very funny~ This is a comedy classic is funny 40 years later~after the Teacher is "bit" by a snake apparently believing she is dying the BEAST and Good2shoes use the Booze to help ease her pain of dying but there was no snake and the 2 drunk people tell all their little secrets which adds to the humor. More fun is the old cranky bachelor and the teacher fall in love along the way. Well written and acted. 1964 Academy Award for Best Story and Screenplay. this is a KEEPER . I give this a 10 out of 10 . Suitable for all ages~ Cary at his best~oh the Title tune Pass Me Bye is a joy to hear too~ so very apt for Carys way of life~

This is a great feel good movie. Not to heavy, will make you smile. Cary Grant sort of steps out of his usual comfort zone of playing the charming much sought ater gentleman, and plays a grouchy, cantankerous naval officer.

This movie is one of our favorites. It's Cary Grant at his funniest best. My husband and I have laughed over it for years. We have little phrases from the movie that one of us just has to say and we both burst out laughing. It's a "feel good" kind of movie...something we need more of!

It is almost impossible to find some older, classic comedies in the stores. I was very pleased to find it on ebay for a very reasonable price. This movie is all about life, fun and romance, ironically set during WW II. The quick-witted script written for Cary Grant is seamlessly funny, not to mention the obvious charm. There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this movie. Sheer entertainment.

Cary Grant like you've never seen him! He let loose and went from the sophisticated gentleman everyone expected to see and did a fantastic job of being an unkempt, gruff, drunken man. Not only is this movie very funny, but it has a great story in it!

This is a great movie, I saw it as a kid and have always loved it. I wanted to purchase it so I could have to view whenever I wanted to instead of trying to catch it.

This is perhaps my favorite movie. It has the comedy, suspense, romance, and one of my favorite actors, Cary Grant. It was well directed and it is one of those movies that I know most of the dialogue, having watched it so often. I never tire of this feature.

Cary Grant is a fabulous & funny actor. This is a great movie for the whole family. A good storyline with lots of laughs. Recommend this movie for anyone.

Part of the Cary Grant collection series, this 1964 Academy Award winner (for Best Story and Screenplay) is Cary Grant all the way! Wonderful performance by the old man interacting superbly with talented Leslie Caron in the traditional love-hate relationship (first I can't stand you, then I can't live without you) in clean comedy form. Trevor Howard provides a great supporting role in this story set in the WWII Pacific Theater. The war is just the backdrop though to provide the scenes for Grant the beachcomber turned reluctant coast watcher who's already disagreeable life is turned upside down by a stranded French schoolmarm (Caron) and her seven girl charges. The new DVD release is a standard recording with scene access, some interactive screens and delivered in widescreen version (1.85:1 ratio). For those old enough to remember the big screen release, yes this is the same one. For the younger crowd, well this is a lesson in how they used to make movies. If rated, it would probably be PG for reference to alcohol use (remember Grant starts out as a gruff beachcomber type). Enjoy!

I cannot rate this as I did not recieve it. I have been waiting for it to come in . Hope it does come in someday as this is one of my favorite movies.

I've loved this movie for a long time and figured it was time that I owned a copy. Having it on DVD is very convenient.

Father Goose is such a wonderful family classic, Cary Grant at his best. My family has most of the lines memorized (just like they do for Princess Bride). It is a great addition to anybody's movie library; one that can be seen again and again. Trevor Howard and Leslie Caron are just priceless. It has WWII drama and intenseness, comedy, love. The actors carry the scenes because the locale is just an island and a one room shack. Today's movies rely more on locale, action,gore and costumes. Please consider buying this movie and enjoying every minute of it.

I find this movie very funny and enteraning the plot is very good if your looking for good family friendly movies get FATHER GOOSE kids will love it.

We looked for this movie on Dvd for a long time. We originally had it on Vhs and loved it so much that we continued to look for it until we found it. We watch this movie quite frequently.Wonderful Movie with Cary Grant comedy. Very enjoyable and family oriented. Wide range of ages to see. Great family movie.
