Fast Food Nation - Eye Opening! Gives one pause...

I'd heard of this book/movie but wasn't too familiar. I found this to be very eye opening. It starts out with interesting history regarding the founding of the fast food concept in California in the 1940's. McDonalds and Carl's Jr. are covered extensively.
Then gets into the evolution of the industry into mass production to the point where the companies and presumably consumers want their burger and fast food outlet to be the same whether in Scranton, Seattle, or Shanghai. The drive to low cost and homogeniety has had devastating impact to the farmers, ranchers, fast food employees, migrant worker butchers, and food safety. The lack of regulation and oversight is extremely shocking and is going sideways at best.
Book pulls no punches. I would definitely consider purchasing other books by this author. And I will definitely think twice before entering that fast food outlet or buying hamburger at the supermarket.
