Movie Description The girlfriend of the toughest captain on the Erie Canal falls in love with a young farmer, hired as a boat hand. The farmer gradually brings her around to his love of the land in this fun filled story.

Musical remake of the 1935 film "The Farmer Takes a Wife," directed by Victor Fleming, and featuring actor Henry Fonda's screen debut. That film was based on a theatrical play, which itself came from a novel. Neither the play nor the original movie was a musical.
