Farmer Brown Shears His Sheep by Teri Sloat (2000, Hardcover)

This is one of my children's and my favorite books. It is a pure joy to read aloud, as the lyrical lilt of the language is almost musical. Follow the amusing journey of Farmer Brown's shorn sheep as they follow the path of their fleece from carding to spinning to dying to knitting and finally hand-knitted cardigans which they wear with pride. As a die-hard knitter, this book has been very useful in educating my young children about the processes leading up to their hand-knitted garments, and they have gained a new appreciation for all that is necessary to craft these very special items. The illustrations are colorful and make the endearing characters come alive - each new reading you notice something in the pictures you may not have seen before. This comical book is one which will hold its appeal through the years and many repeated readings.
