As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me

I liked that this movie was based on a true story. It showed us a different view point of the effects of WW II and the love and determination this German soldier had for home and family. I bought this DVD because I am trying to view more period type films that have more substance to them than the more recent movies. This movie does not disappoint. Highly reccomend!

Great Movie on the will to live. And it's true.

Most of the haracters are very believable and flawed like most people. Doen't have the Hollywood glitter, good vs evil, car chase stuff. The English subtitles actually make it a better movie than having it dubbed.

The only part that seemed a bit phoney was the part where the prison master kept showing up in the chase. This is one part of the story that wasn't true. The movie is long but the story is cut short compared to the book.

Great Film! Lots of Action and Thrills. True Story
Review created: 04/15/08

This was a great movie from the standpoint of Russian imprisonment in Siberia after the War. It is a true story. About one out of 7 Germans returned from captivity. We empathize with the hero of this story just as we don't empathize with Germans who actually perpetrated the scorched earth policies in Eastern Europe. Certainly many thousands of Eastern European villages were destroyed by the Germans during the war, not to mention the death camps.

We like Clemens Ferell. We follow his unlikely journey from Siberia near Alaska, all the way to Iran. This was an action survival film with a heart, and a conscience. At one point a Jew rescues this German escapee in a Central Asian Republic which causes his own death in the process. Clemens Ferell is trying to get back to his wife and child. All in all, a moving film. They could have left out a love scene with a Siberian girl.
