While he looks over his two teenagers and his baby (who has an English accent and is keen on dominating the world), it's abundantly clear that the family dog is the smartest member of the Griffin clan. This collection contains 28 episodes of irreverent humor combining the satire of The Simpsons with the gross-out slapstick of South Park during the animated show's unfortunately short run.

Seth McFarlane's Family Guy is the funniest show on television - and it has been for years. Its quickly developed a cult following that is stronger and larger than the Simpsons'. The Family Guy aired on Fox in 1999 immediately following the Super Bowl and received wild attention - though not positive - among the media for its raunchiness and controversial material. After Fox's cancellation in 2002, the Family Guy Season 1 was released on DVD in 2003 and has been wildly successful since. Two years later, the Family Guy DVD is still in high demand on eBay (where it can be purchased for a fraction of the $49.99 retail price) and its still in the top 100 list on Amazon.com. The Family Guy Season 1 DVD was so successful, a subsequent DVD was released and the show was re-picked up on Fox and currently airs on Sunday Nights. The Family Guy follows the Griffins who live in Quahog, Rhode Island and appear to be a normal suburban family. The specific Griffins are each unique: The father Peter Griffin is fat, lazy, raunchy and a simpleton (think Homer Simpson). Daughter Meg Griffin is a homely, unsophisticated 15-year old. Chris Griffin is a 13-year old version of his father. Baby Stewie is a sophisticated big-thinker with plans to overtake the world - the only problem is that only his dog Brian can hear him. Brian on the other hand drinks martinis, dates women, and reeks of sarcasm. The true humor within Family Guy is the writing. Seth McFarlane has a knack for social commentary and sarcasm - attacking anything relevant to current events, pop culture, or the likes... and he does so in on-the-border / is-it-offensive? manners. If you can make it through a single episode without laughing aloud - you must not have a funny bone in the body! There are extras and commentaries - but below are the included episodes and the corresponding discs: Disc One: Death Has a Shadow I Never Met the Dead Man Chitty Chitty Death Bang Mind Over Murder A Hero Sits Next Door The Son Also Draws Brian: Portrait of a Dog Disc Two: Peter, Peter, Caviar Eater Holy Crap DaBoom Brian in Love Love Thy Trophy Death is a *** The King is Dead Disc Three: I Am Peter, Hear Me Roar If I'm Dyin', I'm Lyin' Running Mates A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Bucks Fifteen Minutes of Shame Road to Rhode Island Let's Go to the Hop Disc Four: Dammit Janet! There's Something About Paulie He's Too Sexy for His Fat E. Peterbus Unum The Story on Page 1 Wasted Talent Fore, Father Review ID: 10000000000000361 Was this review helpful? And that’s the problem: continuity. Unlike “The Simpsons”, “Family Guy” suffers from a very up and down pace. You’ll laugh your sides off at some of its offbeat parts and scratch your head at others. The characters are great. Peter and especially Stewie are both consistently funny (though sometimes put in unfunny situations). The rest of the crew is so-so though most of the jokes will happen with these two. The menus and format work fine but nothing is truly notable. There’s a lot to see here though I question the replay value somewhat. If a compilation was made of the funniest moments from “Family Guy”, it would be a runaway hit. Until then, though, get ready for a rollercoaster ride of the good and the not so good. If you don’t like off-color humor or pop culture jokes, you probably aren’t a big animated fan anyway. The rest of us will chuckle. Review ID: 10000000000004596 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 03/19/06(updated 03/22/06) by: 4 of 13 people found this review helpful.
