This book is very informative, and has a lot of ideas to help you and your family improve and become closer. It has helped me find a way to draw my family closer together. Dr. Phil really has a lot of good stuff in this book. I recomend it to anyone who has a family, and feels there is always room for improvement.

  Great Item poor Seller Skills

I love the book.. it is very informative. Unfortunately, the seller was the worst. She made every excuse. In the auction she stated you had to pay her in a certain amount of time or she would report you. So of course I paid in the noted time and waited to receive my item. Well after several wks decided to contact her again, but only after I checked her out a bit more. I found out that others were not receiving their items too.. but she was shopping and spending alot of money. Then I saw (why I don't know) she did not have to give a phone number on her information. So I went to http://www.whitepages.com and performed a search with her name and the city..then I contacted her back and told her if she did not contact me and let me know what was going on.. that I would start calling all those numbers and names that I located.. well miraciously she contacts me back and tells me she is very sorry. Needless-to-say she stated she mailed it and was having a hard time with the post office, but her auction states she mails items via fedex.. so she was caught in another lie. I finally did rec after I threatened to contact the local police dept. Now she is a unregistered member. Not recommended.

A book for young married couples
Review created: 01/30/08(updated 02/08/09)

This is a book that i would recommend to young couples contemplating having children or who have children. For people who already have children, this book is a how to, when we "already have done" what we were taught, how to raise our children. This book gives insight into how to raise your chil/children, but it is not one i would recommend for people in their 30's and 40's but for people in their 20's. I found it excruciating to read and put it away and am contemplating the trash can. Today's generation of child rearing is not like the Dr Phil's time, and this is what he projects in his book.

Loved this book. Very good, plain, easy steps to follow. Many of these steps are already being done in my home, but sometimes it is just good to read reinforcement. Great book for newlyweds and parents with newborns too! Great to get started on the right foot!

McGraw Means It: Family IS First
Review created: 07/01/08
by:

This is a wonderful read for anybody out there. Whether your family needs some help or not, pretty much every major topic that is destroying our families is in here. If your family is in crisis, read it. If you want to get ahead of the game, to avoid having a future family in crisis, pick this one up.

Ours is a busy household (show me a slow one, I don't believe there is such a thing) and quality reading time is at a premium, usually rearing it's head around 10:00 pm or later. The end of each long day usually finds me sitting and scanning pages of somebody's text, desperately trying to absorb what I am reading, and finally ceding defeat after a fifth attempt at the same paragraph. I found myself fighting the same fatigue while reading this one, but with one difference: I wasn't ready to give in when my eyes said, "No more". Every kernel of information in here is a gold nugget, well worth the effort of delaying that trip into Oblivion.

I highly recommend Family First. Dr. Phil has obviously done his homework and integrates, among other things, what he has learned as a family counselor and what he has experienced as a father himself. He encourages you to grow a pair for the sake of your family, and pick up the ball that has been dropped. He helps you "be the hero" your family may need, and by the time the last page has been turned, you realize how important the nucleus of family really is that is living under your roof. You are not guilt-tripped into changing things, you are inspired to be the best that you can, and excited to see what the future holds. Good luck, my prayers are with you...
