  Visually Stunning your Heart

I had watched this movie in the theater and truely it was visually as well as emotionally stunning. The little girl was the perfect little girl for this part. This will be a time honored classic and I have to own this one! It gives you a bit of a life lesson as well as takes you to real exotic locales within the stories that Lee Pace's character tells. Tarsem went to about 28 or so different countries to shoot film footage. I think that's what's even more amazing is that these are real places! Even the main area is not a set, the hospital was 'borrowed' for the film because the little girl doesn't know much English. This allowed her to get more into character by have a real place to act in. Really Tarsem worked so hard on this film. So if you like movies that touch your heart and soul, this is the one!

  The Fall DVD (2008)

This masterpiece of a film centers around a little girl and the fairy tale told to her by a paralyzed stunt man. But it is far more than that, as the lines slowly blend between the fantasy world and her own until you aren't sure what is real and what isn't. Filmed in over twenty locations, the film is extremely beautiful and a sight to behold. The acting is pretty good and the main actress (a 5-7 year old girl) is actually very convincing in her part. However, it is violent at times and I would only suggest it to adults looking for a smart fantasy film. Overall, I would highly recommend it and give it five out of five stars.

  Hypnotically gorgeous...funny and touching, too

Absolutely the best film I've seen in years. It has definitely moved into my top 5, if not my top 3. To give this some perspective, some of my all-time favorites are Office Space, A Clockwork Orange, Picnic at Hanging Rock...I could go on. Favorite filmmakers are Wes Anderson, Joel and Ethan Coen, early 20th Century Germans...again, I could go on.

This film is beautiful visually, but also has an emotional subtlety rarely seen in popular movies. Lee Pace's and Catinca Untaru's faces belie the stories they are telling in words with amazing intelligence. Yet again, I could go on.......

This was not your ordinary love story but as a story within a story holds your attention. I don't think this is for everyone but I enjoyed it and would recommend it as light entertainment.

  'The Fall' will not disappoint!
Review created: 05/30/09

If you appreciate breathtaking cinematography, brilliant story-writing, and inspiring fantasy, this is your movie. It follows the very 'real' story of Roy, a depressed bedridden cripple, alongside the 'surreal' stories he tells Alexandria, a little girl with a broken arm, while both at a hospital in the early 1900s. The humor in the movie is subtle and brilliant, while the relationship bond formed between Roy and Alexandria will melt your heart and dampen your eyes. The 'R' rating is for killing scenes and the concept of suicide presented in the film. The director, Tarsem, is a genius. This is my favorite movie of all time.

  An orginal story telling film
Review created: 02/03/09

I really enjoyed this film. It has a very unique visual style/sence and story telling technique. The story is kept simple, but presents a lot of beautiful images that are both sexually beautiful and sensative and throught provoking. I hope this becomes a "Cult" film. It beacons for that type of audiance.

Brilliant movie, I saw it in-flight while on an airplane! The colorful artistic elements cannot be overstated. The child's voice and accent are poignant. It was even shrink wrapped, as a new DVD. Had never heard of this movie, until my airplane flight, then I asked others if they had seen it.

  PLEASE SEE!! A MASTERPIECE
Review created: 12/09/08

Once again, after the 7th time i had seen this film, it has proven to be probably the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. It is truly a masterpiece of film. The symbolism, story-line, acting, and characters are all in perfect tune with each other. Too little are there movies with this much depth and richness to them. The Fall is wonderful.

  Great Movie
Review created: 12/07/08

The cinematography of this movie is phenomenal. The most amazing part is that if I hadn't been to so many of the places where they shot the movie I wouldn't have believed they were real and now I want to return to India and see them all again.

  Wonderful storytelling!
Review created: 12/07/08

A story within a story as interpreted by the eyes of a child, and what a child! The director managed to pull out great natural expressions from the little actress that was used in the film. And she had to do it with her arm in a cast often held in an awkward position.

The visuals are stunning!! The visuals and colors are vivid; the locations and buildings used are real, not created by CGI. Touches of Escher, a swimming elephant seen underwater, and man emerging from a tree, heroes on a quest, and then the reality of a troubled injured man and a little girl who idolizes him.

  I Fell for "The Fall"
Review created: 11/09/08

This movie was pure magic. The movie is based in the 1930's & is a story about a stuntman who goes to the hospital after a fall of a horse. There he meets the sweetest little girl who is in the hospital after falling off a ladder from picking oranges. Roy (the stuntman) tells the little girl wonderful stories, but they come at a price. I recommend this movies to young and old. It is rated R but its only for a few death scences (in my opionion it should have been PG13). Great movie!!

  THE FALL
Review created: 11/03/08(updated 11/03/08)
by:

One of the most original and stunning movies I have seen in a long time. The set design and cinematography are visually stunning and fantastical. It is fun and whimisical and yet dramatic. There is lavish imagery and fantastic real locations creating the atmosphere for an epic adventure. It was gratifying to view something real instead of computer graphic generated. I admit to being totally biased toward Lee Pace- one of my favorite new actors, who brings a sense of wounded vulnerability to the part of the injured protagonist. At the same time, he has deeply dark motives and is deviously manipulative -- but that smile!! Stealing the show is new Romanian child actress Catinca Untaru, a real find in her first movie performance. She is incredibly naturalistic and innocent. Her wide-eyed wonder and naïvete are tempered by by her dawning realization of the grave truth when the fairy tale takes a grim turn. Untaru is the heart of The Fall and Hollywood child actors and their agents should weep at their plastic performances compared to this gem. I think it is unfortunate that the film is rated R. I suppose this is because of the suicide theme and some graphic violence but children surely see much more disturbing themes and images on prime time television and on video games. I think PG 13 would have been an appropriate rating. I recommend that parents watch this with their pre-teen and teen children and discuss the situations and outcome as an instructive experience. I am recommending this movie to everyone to whom I speak. It should rightfully find an appreciative audience and reach classic status.
